Great Song Cover Versions

I’ve never been a fan of The Cure but I am a fan of Yo La Tengo so a bit confusing to see them covering one of their songs but it really works, even if it’s not their usual sound.

That’s a great cover. As a huge Zeppelin fan this is far from my favourite song but the massive build with the choir at the end of this, and their outfits, get me quite emotional.

edit. Also big props to the lead guitarist. It can’t be good for the nerves playing one of the most famous solos ever to the man who wrote it.

Liking the Michael Kiwanuka one. A good cover should add something or change a song a bit.

Robert Plant looks like he wants to get out of there as he absolutely hates the song!

Not quite a cover song but this wee lass gave this some welly!

She's really good! I was always a frustrated drummer myself but no way would my folks let me set up a drum kit in the bedroom.

Still marginally prefer Dion's original (with Phil Spector producing) but this is pretty good too

David Lowery's Camper Van Beethoven covering Status Quo which is pretty weird

..and even weirder here is David Lowery again, with Cracker, covering Camper van Beethoven, covering Status Quo

Think this is a great cover of the Creedence classic.

Good band, should have been bigger in my opinion.
And as a good example of how covers can change a song completely here’s the same song again...

Yip. I’m a huge Zep fan too and it’s not my favourite LZ tune either.

The choir is an inspirational add and first time i heard it the hairs were standing up on the back of my neck.

I like a lot of Heart stuff too so probably a wee bit biased.

Very different version that but I liked it.

Don't know if I posted this on this thread years back but here's a different cover Jimmy Eat World did for a charity compilation and separate EP:

Was going to suggest this, great cover and he does a brilliant version of this too Paul Weller - Wishing On A Star - YouTube

A personal favourite

The Stranglers - Walk On By - YouTube

And this adds a different dimension to both Morrissey and the originals

Morrissey - (I Never Promised You A) Rose Garden (The Grand Ole Opry 2015) - YouTube

That's Entertainment - YouTube

Better than the original

This Mortal Coil - Song To The Siren (Official Video) - YouTube

Not a big fan of either the band or the song but this works for me

The Fall - Lost In Music - YouTube

I’ve just discovered this band. They might not be for everyone as a lot of their stuff is quite poppy, but played by shit hot musicians. However this cover of Thriller is amazing. Totally shift the groove around yet keep it funky as hell. The usual line up is just the singer, drummer, and bass player. All superb players.

Was watching Accused on Prime.

A crematorium scene had Johnny Cash

Personal Jesus. I had no idea that was his song.

I only like covers if they are different to the original and throws you off, that you can't remember who done the original.

In this case it was a reverse cover effect:lol:

I had to you tube to remember who's song I thought it was. Depeche Mode.

Was not into them at the time, but love hearing their stuff now.

Now been Googling, it was a Depeche song covered by Cash.

Soft Cell's Where Did Our Love Go was one of the best covers in the 80s.

Just came on to post this as well. Two great covers.
