Could FoH buy a feeder club....?

Section Q

Recommended Posts

Now don't laugh......But as our financial commitment managed to save our great institution, and contributions don't look like slowing down anytime soon, would it be feasible for us to acquire a club where our younger players can be developed instead of loaning them out..?

Hibs were sold for around £6-7m.

Anyone know the rules for having shares in more than one club.....?

I would rather we put everything into getting the best scouting team in the country so we had young players who were much closer to the first team standards at an earlier age. We could then rotate them on the bench and give them suitable game time.

I'm not sure we should waste our money buying a wee team, like hibs for example. Would be too much hassle and extra cost. I'd rather get the youngsters out on loan regularly with secured playing time across Scotland to support the lower leagues. I've never really been a fan of feeder teams. I mean, not to pick on them, but look at Hibs. Being Celtics feeder club hasn't really helped them. And its hardly helped develop workd beaters for Celtic.

Silly money needed, and I don't think scotland is a high enough level league for that.

Whilst i can't see this working the OP's premise is sound, we could buy a bottom league club and win every league right up to the Championship. That would stuff the SPFL right up.

The Heart of Midwigan doesn't have the same ring to it though.

It we could buy Wigen, relocate them to Edinburgh, call them Heart of Midlothian and continue to play in the English league, I would be ecstatic.

We could buy Dundee and Dundee Utd the way things are going, merge them, call them Dundee United in Stupidity and make them play in blue, sponsored by www.takeyourmedicine.com (a website we set up consisting entirely of gifs aimed at them). We can convert one stadium into a big block of flats called Tynecastle Heights and paint it maroon with a massive painted middle finger aimed at the surviving stadium across the road.

Whilst we muse on the merits of buying a feeder club, our friends in leith and Dundee couldn't buy a packet of crisps between them.

Think before you vote.

I think dual ownership would become an issue.

We could look to form an extremely close working relationship with a juniors club or something and try and wrangle it so we're loaning the maximum and 'selling' them players for £1 buy back with a clause that its a ridiculous amount to any club thats not Hearts. They effectively become a colt team.

Not sure if thats legal at all (probably not).

I'd like to see some help/investment in grass roots. Not buying a club, but just some partnership.

Also wouldn't object to throwing a bit of a month's donations towards Partick and Stranraer.

I’d like to see it spent on something that makes the club money. I then want to see that money spent on the first team.

FOH could buy a wee plane. There must be someone on here with a pilot's licence. Competitions on here, to say where it goes and what goes on the banner.

We could genuinely buy raith rovers with a couple months FOH cash.  I would be up for doing that and then flattening their crime against humanity stadium.

I have said in the past, that when the club is making a decent amount of money, I would like the FoH be used as a fund to grow the club. Something that brings in extra income for the first team would be good.

I remember hearing the Kilmarnock hotel was a good earner for Killie (though I see it has since be sold to Kilmarnocks owner as part of a deal to pay off debts the club have built up.) Now not saying we build a hotel but I do think being creative there could be possibilities which we could provide extra revenue for the club.

Feeder club is an interesting idea, I would like us to have partnerships with clubs overseas but I know at the moment its not something we can probably afford. If the best way to develop your youngsters is through a feeder club in the lower leagues, I think that would be a good idea.

I’d happily see us forge links with the likes of Stranraer, kelty and Brora to fully implement the levein youth and coaching development policy while helping all 3 sides move up the leagues.

I’m not so sure financially or legally buying a feeder club would work but I do think that using FOH money to invest in business or property to allow an ongoing profit to be made would be a good idea. We all know that money in the bank doesn’t make anything so once the main stand is paid and the transfer of shares are complete investing in City property or business would be well worth looking at.
Having investment out with Football could be very wise.

Mr Brightside

We could but morally I don’t think it is the right thing to do. FOH was set up by fans to save our club to then buy a L1 or L2 club and influence it would be unfair to the fans of that club. Their club is as important to them as Hearts are to us.

I'll drink to that. The last few months have made it clear that the quicker we get out of the corrupt Scottish league the better

Far to sensible a comment for this thread.

I think an external investment from FoH funds providing an ongoing income to the club is a great idea. A West End hotel  for example and marketed for tourists and footie fans might do well. We get overseas punters at every home game.

I know  what you mean, but I think it can also depend on how you do it. If you buy the club and change the name, the team colours etc then it is unfair to those clubs, but if you buy up a club but that is at risk of going out of business and going have arrangement with the club where ownership split between FoH and their own fans where they keep the name etc but Hearts will help them with providing players, coaching etc then I think it can be beneficial to both and help sustain the club.

We should buy up the old Tynecastle school and grounds. Then refurbish it in to apartments, sell some to recoup the initial outlay and keep some to operate as long and short term lets.

I wouldn't want to buy another Scottish club. I'd rather we burnt them all to the ground instead.
