Laptop problem

Anybody know anything about laptops ?

I have an Acer laptop which I have had for at least 4 years , the screen has started to pause intermittently and has coloured lines down the computer.

I have been in contact with simply fixit and they want £99 to look at laptop and hopefully fix but no money back if they can't.

I suppose my questions for anybody computer minded is does this sound a typical problem that is fixable or am I better just buying a new laptop and saving myself £100.

Cheers

Does it get hot? Do you have pets? The fan and vents might be clogged.

Could try plugging it into your TV and see if the coloured lines persist. If it does then it could be a sign of a dying chip and you'd be as well buying a new laptop.

You'd be cheaper in the long run getting a new model if it's over 100 to fix

I came across this when I was  looking for a fix for my lad's Acer.

His problem was different from yours though - and I still haven't got a fix for it.

Simply Fixit are robbing b'tards. I had a similar issue with mine, Acer Aspire, a couple of years ago and SF wanted that £100 with no guaranteed fix.  Took it to the guy at Balgreen and he fixed it for a tenner. Only thing is I don't think he's there any longer. Had mine since 2012.

Be aware that if you're into watching fat hairy bird porn that whoever looks at your laptop will know. Wipe the harddrive all you want but he'll still know you watch fat hairy bird porn.
