Scarves around the funnel podcast

Sorry if this has been asked before.  Where did the name "Scarves around the funnel" come from??  The two well known Jambos, Mark and Laurie, who present do a good job. I listen twice to make sure all the relevant info sinks in. I look forward to the return of Hearts TV as soon as the games start up again.  The thing I dont understand is the name, can anyone help??   Are there any other Hearts podcasts??

The Boys in Maroon one is good too. There was one called the Hearts Review also but not sure it's still going. Scarves Around the Funnel is really excellent, both speak well and there's always a good blend of humour in there too.

This one is a nice manageable 29 minutes long, including outro music. Tangents kept to a minimum on a Sunday 😆

Heard it last night. Excellent work, Laurie. You and Mark work well together.

👍

Thanks Jonno, glad you enjoyed it. I think we've built up a good bit of rapport over the last 2 years, funnily enough 95% of our verbal communication has been on the podcast - given I'd barely spoken to Mark before we started (lots of emails, tweets, WhatsApps etc).

Thanks Marvin, just a quick one thrown together but we felt it was important to cover the Neilson developments.

Mark might not have been a fan of your puns at the start but I was 👍

Another great show mate. Looking forward to listening when you get Robbie on too!

Just make sure Mark doesn't ask him any awkward questions about current circumstances 😂

Thanks mate, much appreciated!

If/when we get Robbie on (I don't want to count any chickens yet, even though he's agreed as I'm sure he's a busy man just now) we'll probably be focusing a fair bit in 2006, the Romanov years and his experiences back then - with a wee bit on what lies ahead!

Really enjoyed listening to that the extra detail on the Judges notes was informative.

The arbitration shouldn’t be the kangaroo court some are fearing.

Yeah it sounds like it'll be a lot fairer than most of us imagined.

That said, I don't think anyone, expert or otherwise, really knows how it will go at this stage!

Thanks, very much appreciate it. We always like to hear positive feedback,  but equally if anyone has any constructive criticism or suggestions then we want to take that on board too (already made a few tweaks here and there based on feedback, the main one being getting guests on).

Great to hear from our manager. His story about Burley going through opposition teams was brilliant 😂

Glad you enjoyed it. Yeah, that was a particular favourite of mine - Burley's "opposition analysis"!

I remember an ex-Liverpool player, can't remember who, saying that Bill Shankly used to do similar.

Before a match against Man Utd, Shankly went through their side, basically calling them all rubbish, apart from Best, Law and Charlton.  Then told the players, if you can't beat 3 men you don't deserve to play for Liverpool.

This episode has boosted my confidence in Robbie. He spoke well and showed he has a sense of humour and a good knowledge of the game.  Did anyone try to wave the gold stick over the racing lists for the 3.15 at Musselburgh.  It is hard to believe that anyone truly believed that this stick waving was a real thing, but under Romanov anything was possible.

Hey Laurie,  Do you podcast under another name?? The reason I ask is this, I have been listening to a podcast called unearthed. The cast is about Edinburgh, lore and its history, and on first

listening the guy sounds like your vocal double. Even the tones and accent sound like you.  It made me think you must have a double. (A statement and not an offer LOL)

BTW.....More Robbie is a great idea, and any other players who were there at the time get them on.  Burley's motivation talks must have been great to attend, we need to hear more about the

Romanov period.  I can't imagine why anybody would turn the music off after an important win to deliberately stop the dressing room celebrations.  And so what if Burley liked a drink he was

paid to win football games and he did that rather spectacularly.  As one of my mates said at the time " 3 - 0  up at half time and the world looked maroon with no worries", and that applied to

most of Burleys games.

Haha, no problem - which one was that? I did try to push for a few other titbits but Robbie wasn't falling for it 😝

To be fair, he was doing us a big favour coming on and I thought he was open and honest about a lot of things, so didn't want to push our luck!

Thanks all, really appreciate it - and I do keep tabs on any feedback we get on here. Always great to see that people are enjoying the content. We won't have Robbie Neilson on every week, unfortunately, but we like to keep things topical and a mix of informative/fun. More guests lined up, one in particular who we're going to keep pestering for a definitive date. Aye, that would be Craigy G 😁

I don’t think he gave a definitive answer on the best player he ever played with. To be fair, he’s played with a few legends in his time 👍

Ah right, yeah. I quite liked the Vincent Guérin answer though, one from left field but you can understand it - given the technical ability the Frenchman had, albeit he was getting on a bit by the time he was at Hearts.

Hi Laurie.  What day do you do new shows?, I thought it was a Friday as I have listened to some on a lazy Saturday morning. I was expecting one last week (17th) but it never arrived.

When will the next one be ready and can you give any details about the arbitration if you have any information?

To be honest we've not had a set routine for a while now, mainly because I've been back at work and Mark is covering Serie A - which means matches to commentate on almost every evening (unfortunately the time difference means during the day I'm at work and he's asleep or at home, then when I'm home he's working).

Thursdays seem to be the best day for us to record at the moment, which means a Friday release. But when we've got a guest on we sometimes have to adjust things to accommodate them.

Don't have any additional info on the arbitration, just what's out there generally I'm afraid.
