Jambo-Jimbo
Was giving the Meerkat experience as a birthday present a few years ago. Great time, made up a box stuffed with rolled up paper which I'd put live food into, then got to go into their enclosure to feed them, stood there watching them rip the paper apart to get to the bugs, brilliant. inspector
I have heard that they're only displaying dogs. It's a shih tzu. Sorry

graygo
Remember you can only go if you live within 5 miles of it. Covid-19 and all that. 😉

Debut 4
Heard the lions roar the other night when I was walking the dog, you can often hear them on a quiet, still night, and monkeys on the odd occasion. Sounds like they are just a stones throw away sometimes but it’s a mile as the crow flies from my hoose. Just thought I’d let you know😁. JudyJudyJudy
Poor animals. We now know how they feel being cooped up in cages etc. There really is no need for zoos now.
Cruyff
Edinburgh Zoo is uo there with the worst places I've ever been to tbh. 5 sisters zoo was vastly superior.

AlimOzturk
Never been one to go and watch caged animals in unnatural habitats being gocked at by people. And yes I realise that zoos are unfortunately needed for conservation of some animals and that many wouldn't survive in the wild. Just wish they weren't. I've always thought Human prisons should have a viewing gallery. Fairs, fair. Edited June 24, 2020 by ri Alban

For many species, yes absolutely. For critically endangered species, Zoos play an important international role in breeding to maintain the populations, even if they are in captivity. There are several programmes running where Zoos swap endangered animals around to spread the genetics out and increase numbers. Then small populations are rehabilitated and released into protected reservations. With so much natural habitat being lost, it's important work.
