Sophisticated chaps like myself buy a good amount of fresh fish from a fish van most Saturday's, which all taste delicious.

Examples are;

Naturally smoked haddock, none of your dyed yellow shite)

Salmon fillets

Sea Bass

Trout fillets

Swordfish steaks

Wild Halibut

They can all be frozen.

I'm a snobby get sometimes.

Nothing snobby about that mate. Must cost a bloody fortune though.

This reminds me that it's Tuesday tomorrow, so the fish van comes. One of the bonuses of being at home has been catching the fish van. Haddock fillets and a bag of dressing. Doesn't take a lot cooking. Tasty as, in a sort of retro way.

No bad local strawberries too.

Wouldn't know about frozen fish.

Can anyone recommend some decent frozen fish?

I'm trying to fill the freezer with reasonably healthy stuff but anytime i buy frozen fish they're minging.

Not read the whole thread but Tesco breaded Chunky Cod or Haddock fillets are really good. Has to be the "chunky" one though but watch as the non-chunky packaging is almost identical.

Watch if you're going to buy fish from a supermarket for freezing. Some stores sell 'fresh' fish which has previously been frozen. They have to tell you this, but the writing can be on the small side.

Happens regularly. White fish is one of those products you can safely do this.

Another thing. I was in one of the deep freeze facilities in Peterhead a few years back and asked what all the boxes of fish stored about 10 racks up were for. He said, they've been there for about a year or more and we will likely sell them to chip shop suppliers or to fish processors who "value add" the product (i.e. make it into something else like fish fingers or fish pie or something).

Over a year old!

Fresh aye???

Don't think they'd be claiming they were fresh. They'd be frozen properly though, not like at home.

As an aside, most of the imported fruit and veg that you buy "fresh" from supermarkets was frozen before transit.

Wasn't your usual minus 18 degrees freezer storage. More like minus 40. Had to wear a big padded suit thing before going in.

Worked with a bloke once that used to go in with a freezer suit on and then go to sleep up the the top steel.

Young’s _ Frozen Chip shop cod fillets from Asda 👍

Top notch

I know someone who was an inspector for the government's Food Standards Agency.  They told me they would never eat anything from Young's. They wouldn't elaborate though.

Despite that, I like their lemon and parsley cod fillets. :D

Just bide away from anything caught or farmed in Vietnam (or other places similar) and you'll be fine.

That's why i won't buy imported fish over here , as its mostly Indonesia and Vietnam it's imported from.  New Zealand stuff is good
