Id say the reason is England aren't run by 1 club.

Because Celtic dont want to its as simple as that really

This. Sometimes it's Celtic, sometimes it's Sevco, sometimes it's both of them, but Scottish football always dances to some kind of Old Firm tune.

Did Celtic just say “well let’s finish this up, think we’ve done enough, don’t care about the repercussions”

Scotland has not eased restrictions as early as England.

They are resuming on 17th June for two games, Scotland has been given the go ahead to start in August.

August appears pertinent for the new sponsorship deal.

Could or should Scotland eased restrictions along with England, maybe, but possibly being cautious is the more prudent thing given some medical advisers are saying that England is easing lockdown too early.

I guess we’ll see.

Less than 10% chance of football starting in August, because infection rate will be, at least on the up, and probably higher than March, because everything is ok.

It must be the SPFL are starting on due date

What a good post.  If pressed though, SPFL would spin their way out of it and convince nobody.  They are an absolute laughing stock.

The horse hasn't bolted though. They can reverse the decision.

This is the question the media should now be focused on and this is why there should have been - and should still be - an inquiry. They spent no time discussing alternative options. Why? It's never been explained fully, just some wishy washy crap about not being able to release funds. Budge's benefactors could have stepped in. There could have been any number f ways to get some funding to clubs to see the through but they never seemed to be discussed.

I must've skimmed over it at some point but what's the story with player contracts ending this season in Germany and England while they try finish their seasons?

Could the released SPFL players be given a 2 month contract extension?

crystal clear it was a headlong rush to anoint Celtic champions. nothing else.

A complete fit up from the cash for votes to the Dundee fiasco.

It's hard to argue against that, especially with the intention to still finish the SC and get them their quadruple treble or whatever it is.

Over 600 replies to this - almost all Celtic and Rangers fans arguing with each other. None of them engaging with the actual argument. Sums up our game.

When people started to realise severity of the virus and that it would impact football Celtic started bricking it. Immediately they began to pressure the SPFL with all sorts of nonsense so that nothing could impact their precious 9IAR. Unfortunately the SPFL are a corrupted disgrace who were happy to forego the safety of every single club in Scotland so long as Celtic were declared champions. Now that football could conceivably start again this season the SPFL and Celtic could not give a **** as they've already got what they wanted. Remarkable that the SPFL are happy that one club wins the league even if it means blatant corruption and the death of many other clubs.

The first two Premier League games, Man City v Arsenal and Villa v Sheff Utd ,if played, will mean that all of the clubs will then have 9 matches outstanding and I wouldn't mind betting that those games aren't played and the Premier League use the average points per game to determine final placings. I also don't think any more games will be played in Championship and League One. Watch this space!

Find it hilarious that we finished this season early so that we could start next .... behind closed doors

why not finish this season behind closed doors?  Doesn’t make any sense at all.

Fiinishing this season behind closed doors, scrapping next years league cup and having a 14 or 16 team league playing each other twice from November onwards was the sensible thing to do. On top of that derby pairing tournaments adding two extra games against your closest rival would have allowed us to meet the TV requirement for trhe OF to play each ther 4 times.

Did UEFA not say something initially about how clubs had to finish the season by end of June or something to enter into European competition for next season? Think Celtic sh@t themselves at that and decided they needed the league finished now and declared champions so they wouldn’t miss out on CL next season.

Celtic call the shots and they decided that’s what they wanted so everyone else has to tow the line.

Thoughtful and if it was the SFA that made the decision I could see it but no , intelligent Phukkers will see it through , 2 games a week , justice for all , evidence in court up north 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻.    👏🏻

IIRC fifa brought in rules that subject to agreement with the player a contract could be extended to the end of the rescheduled season.

How many people think that the league would have been called if the old firm were on the same points but separated by goal difference? If Celtic (or Rangers) had been awarded the title, (when only separated by a goal) with 8 games to go there would have been riots!!

That is the problem here, people get too hung up on the numbers game, 13 points ahead, 4 points behind etc. Just ask the Partick Thistle fans. No integrity here.
The principle of the route Scottish football has taken here is so flawed, so wrong, so corrupt that there will be bad blood about this for years.

If they had waited and completed the league there would have been HUGE interest in these remaining games so broadcasters would have been happy. Loads of options have been discussed, start next season later, scrap the winter break, re format the league cup or cancel it completely for a year. Loads of options if there was strong, intelligent leadership but unfortunately we have Neil Doncaster.
Shameful behaviour but we will survive.

I'm pleased to see that this specific issue now has a thread of its own and plead with the mods not to merge with any of the other threads because this issue is important.

The most persuasive (not to me) accounts I have read about why the season "could not" be finished are to do with what is acceptable to the TV companies.

Nothing to do with us fans anyway. We're just the people who contribute most of the cash on which Scottish football depends (I think). We mustn't get ideas above our station.

Our league organisation dont do common sense options, remember the farce when 2 semi finals were going to be played on the same day at hampden.

I think we know the clowns that run are game are not fit for the job, they certainly have shown now how thick and stupid they are.

So we called last season early so that we can start next season behind closed doors and are paying Neil Doncaster £400k a year - bonkers!
