Yeh I read that a few hours ago on the internet news. It’s a classic case of don’t do as I do, do as I say. But it’s alright though as she was only checking on family members in her second home to see if they were alright. Sweep sweep!

I too struggle to believe the story about eating a bat, and if you'll forgive me I'm also sceptical that it was transferred between two animals. Wrong thread for this no doubt, but in these times a bit protocol is going out the window. I can't help but be a bit suspicious about the fact that the same city in which this market can be found is also a major centre of the Chinese pharmaceutical industry. Was it the case that within one of those companies they were actively looking for a vaccine to any potential problems, given the locals fondness for eating animals, and did something go wrong, or was there an accident which resulted in the virus beginning the process of being passed on. Have they since discovered a vaccine or are they close to doing so. Probably best not to think too much into this I guess and concentrate on wondering when we'l get back to football taking place.

I don’t believe the conspiracy theories on this one myself. Zoonosis between different species is not uncommon at all though. Bats in particular are well known to transmit a number of diseases/viruses to humans and other species, including HIV and rabies, but more pertinently they have transmitted previous mutated strains of Coronavirus including SARS and MERS. Interestingly one theory on why they are such transmitters, is that their immune system/antibody response is unique amongst mammals because of the fact they have to beat their wings so rapidly. The physical effort takes a toll on them and causes unique amounts of inflammation and cell damage. Some scientists believe this is why the viruses propagate so well in their system. I do infection control audits for things like crypto at my work, and believe me, zoonosis is extremely common.

What a lot of pish.

Look at me everybody, I don't conform. Like Michael Gove, I've had "far too much of experts".

Your RTA explanation is a false equivalence - and patently wrong.

Annual road deaths UK (2018):   1,784  Link: https://www.fleetnews.co.uk/news/fleet-industry-news/2019/09/27/uk-road-casualty-statistics-labelled-dsigraceful

Current UK coronavirus deaths: 4, 313  Link: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/uk/

We are no-where near the peak, either. I suggest that, you too, know very little about the subject matter since even a cursory glance at the readily available data would have illustrated that the surety and arrogant confidence of your position was not in any way matched by reality.

Unfortunately, that is the way of the internet and world these days - people espouse stuff with such brash, forceful surety that other folk swallow it and we end up with anti-vaxxers, anti-science and idiots setting mobile telecommunications masts on fire.

The Scottish finance minister made a statement a couple of weeks ago about idiots flocking to remote cottages from the cities to isolate themselves, while potentially overstretching the NHS capacities in those regions.

Because it’s not only Wuhan. Wuhan is just the source of this particular outbreak.

You really don’t blame anyone for flouting the law if the people in government do exactly this. Only a complete lockdown, no outdoor exercising and key workers only, otherwise there will be no economy or businesses left.....oh and I forgot to add in dog walkers. They’re allowed outside...and my two need walked 4 times a day 😉

Emergency powers are devolved. While England is talking of banning all outside 'exercise' I don't think Scotland will do that.

Channel 4 noted 1600 deaths per day in the UK and that the Covid figures are over and above.

Yes some people would have died eventually, but Covid significantly speedens this process.  You also have e.g the deaths at care homes and community not being registered.

There is your risk mitigation factor just now compared to driving a car, which of course can be mitigated by safe driving and so on.

Whether it's fair or not is debatable but it is possibly the most workable unless the crisis shows signs of easing dramatically in the next few weeks. I'd go for null and void this season and reorganise the leagues. Having sellik miss out on a championship would be wonderful.

It would be good no doubt about that, it would nullify our wins against Hibs and the opportunity to beat them again in the semi final. But it also negates relegation which is the most important part I suppose. But it’s all about the virus and what happens with it really.

Getting a bit more back on topic.

No league in any sport as far as I am aware has relegated someone yet.

most have been declared null and void, Belgium has called the season but refused to discuss relegation, the rest of the leagues don’t know what to do.

Bottom line is a clear pattern not to relegate.

is Scottish football seriously going to be the one that does the opposite? Seriously? Does anyone really think Aston Villa will be relegated with a game in hand? Of course not, nor should Patrick Thistle in the same position.

I would be absolutely shocked if Hearts are relegated and legal action would be absolutely warranted

You continue to subscribe to national group think if you want old son. Selfish??? Really??? Not once have I referred to ME, I am talking about the affects on the entire population and future generations. Probably the polar opposite of selfishness.  Regardless of what you think, an indefinite lockdown of this nature is unsustainable. The majority of the population can separate the sensible advice from the scaremongering.  The vast majority of people will suffer only very mild symptoms. Unfortunately,  115k die in the UK from respiratory disease each and every year and will need protected as they do every winter. There are a lot of serious illnesses out there and, for some people, this will be the same. But the response to it has to be proportional.

I don't oten agree with you but you are right. Social distancing will continue but the government will allow a return to work in the next few weeks because there are huge unseen conequences of continuing this policy. Dr Bhakdi, Lord Sumption and a whole host of scientic advisors say the lockdown has to end soon. Sport however will have to wait for its ban to be lifted.

Lots of people will die WITH Covid because probably say 25% of the population have been in contact with this virus already - doesn't necessarily mean they died OF Covid. We all eventually will have to take our chances once we know that there is sufficient capacity in the healthcare system.

No doubt Krankie will see a need to do something different though as her whole raison d'etre is to show that she is a more caring sharing sort of human being than these awful Tories lol.

My daughter, an ICU Nurse, can testify that this is more than scaremongering. I don't want to mention her again on a forum like this but I can assure you if the guidelines are not followed then this will go on longer than we can foresee.

so people suggesting we will go back to work before a vaccine is discovered which as a result many thousands will die. Think the numbers were put at 200,000 to 500,000 before the Government back tracked from herd immunity as hospitals would be totally over whelmed and business would have ground to a halt anyway. In other words collateral damage to protect big business. In the World wars mainly young people got killed as cannon fodder now it's the time for auld codgers to make the ultimate sacrifice. Apparently some firms behind the fringe are still pushing to put on some form of the fringe after it was cancelled.  Its absolutely unbelievable, as I guess it doesn't matter to them who dies if they can make some cash.

There is a chance to use the window of mid june to mid July to play the remaining matches however no-one knows how to stop the virus returning as soon as we all start going back to work or matches.  So it seems very unlikely. We may well be in lockdown for 9 months!

The problem is there will be no vaccine widely available for AT BEST 18 months and more likely closer to 2 years. The best that can be done at the moment is to try spread out the time period of which people may get infected so those that need medical treatment can receive it.

My guess is that at some point before September most parts of the world will return to some sort of phased 'normality' which is offices open to those either now immune or considered low risk, maybe some restaurants open with strict capacity/spacing requirements, but absolutely no large scale gatherings of any kind. In this scenario everyone would have to be prepared to go back into lockdown when and where outbreaks occur for 2+ years until a vaccine is globally available.
