A music quiz/challenge

I'm going to list 5 songs. They have one thing in common.

If you can work out what that thing is, reply with a sixth song that fits the theme.

Don't say or guess what the theme it's in your reply; just state the song and I'll say whether or not it's correct. Correct answers are more clues.

1. Positively 4th St. - Bob Dylan

2. A Day in the Life - The Beatles

3. Sympathy for the Devil - Rolling Stones

4. The Scientist - Coldplay

5. Space Oddity - David Bowie

bohemian rhapsody - queen?

unchained melody by various artists?

"...a sixth song" in the theme, milky; not a sixth and seventh.

But your sixth fits the bill perfectly and would have probably been mine.

2112 - Rush

Correct ('though stretching the idea of "a" song)

I'm going to give it another listen - haven't done so in ages.

Around the world - Daft Punk 😉

Quite the opposite of correct.

But I think you knew that :biglaugh:

"A" song - in 7 parts...

Would Discovery or Presentation fit your bill slightly better since The Temples of Syrinx wouldn't? :D

And yes - definitely worth a re-listen.

And just a btw...milky's 6th was going to be mine too :D

if 2112 by rush is correct my reasoning is a little wrong

No, your reasoning is most probably right.

As discussed with Boof, 2112 is a track on the 2112 album so squeezes in on a technicality. He's also right that 'Temples of Syrinx' would not pass muster.

My mistake. The Manics released "The Theme from M*A*S*H (Suicide is Painless)" whilst the original was just "Suicide is Painless"

Brackets or no brackets, neither counts though.

Wish I could join in this game.

But I literally haven't a clue about any of this

:sob:

Yep, no idea what anyone is banging on about.

This, I think is easier. The following songs have one thing in common, what's the link?

1) She's So Modern - The Boomtown Rats

2) Skateaway - Dire Straits

3) Smooth Operator - Sade

Can add more if no one gets it but it isn't difficult.

The clue is in the lyrics of the songs...............be a bit odd if I'm the only one that realises the link.

I've got the link but can't think of another track in the genre.

Pretty certain that Stairway to Heaven is not in the genre, though. I'm off to dust my album collection...

It's not but you can throw in Jason Donovan with 'Too Many Broken Hearts' for another track (really didn't want to use that).

Quite similar to my theme in a way.

Focus on the lyrics to the songs.  There are 9 mentioned that have something specific in common with each other and one (daft punk) which is quite the opposite.

I think the Daft Punk clue is the giveaway.

Squeeze - Up The Junction ?

Does Brain Damage fit your criteria (the song obvs) ?

I was going to add Virginia Plain, but not sure now.

Brain Damage, yes, but not Virginia Plain. I actually thought Brain Damage was way too obvious to include originally but apparently not.

Aha! Think I might have JWL's one...

How's about Mission by Rush?

Or perhaps Armor and Sword also by Rush?

Or maybe even Chemistry....yes...by Rush :D

Fair enough.

I thought the link was the song title is also the last words of the song (which it is in the 3 exs) but obvs something else I'm not getting.

Took me way longer than IPK's one - I thought it was difficult but then I'm not much of a Floyd fan.

Confirmed via PM that Mission by Rush is okay :D

Grand idea for a quiz, IPK - anybody got any more?

I think the other big one would be Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana.

I've got that I'll put together later.

(Trying to get one where Rush isn't an answer!! :) )
