Beast Boy Posted April 3, 2020 Share Posted April 3, 2020 I remember speaking to an elderly Hearts supporter (back when I smoked) outside Diggers. He was in his seventies back in 2007/8. Dave MacKay was the best Hearts player he’d seen, in his opinion. I asked him about players in modern times and for him Hartley was the best. My step dad is in his mid seventies and has seen some of the best players to pull on maroon, and he would pick Hartley before Cameron too. I saw both of them for their entire Hearts careers, and although I’d still choose Cameron. It’s pretty close. Hartley was a fantastic player. I remember I loved Cameron at the time, and often told people how he was my favourite player, but too young to truly appreciate how good he was. I was of an age to fully enjoy just how good Hartley was from 2004-2007. Funny how it worked out with him though. Wasn't he fairly Tam Kite when we first signed him? Both stood up with motm performances v the weejie gruesome twosome, and instrumental in demolishing the wee teamers on a regular basis! CC's two at Easter Road and PH's hat-trick at hampden are amongst my favourite matches ever. My fav match was the Cup Final and I won a fair amount of cash on CC as first scorer in '98! Although he was surrounded by great players in that 97/98 team, his worth really showed when he came back from injury towards the end of the following season.
