Edinburgh neither wanted nor needed them. Edinburgh has a football club, and that club is Heart of Midlothian FC. After about twenty years or so after their demise, you would see a rise in support for Hearts, and they would just be talked about like a less romantic St Bernards or Third Lanark. Their entire existence is basically just a protest against Hearts anyway. It’s never about them, it’s just about being anti-Hearts and has been for some time. If Hearts went out of business Hibs would ultimately dwindle and eventually disappear completely, because we are their entire reason for existence. Hearts are ‘Smokey’, and Hibs are Buford.
