Semi retired, 66yr old that comes from bruntsfield/morningside, self absorbed 'social commentator' for the EEN that's actually quite nasty at times, can't actually find any reference to her as a journalist for any other publication.

So has her bus pass, so can very easily get to the Western General Hospital from Brunstfield whether there is a sporting event in the west of Edinburgh or not. Edinburgh geography obviously not her strong point.

I live relatively near Tynecastle and have visited my wife every day for the last five weeks in the Western General. Usually take the car but have also gone there on foot and public transport. The Motherwell game I visited both pre and post match without any problem and that was leaving after the final whistle. We live in an age where pre planning journeys across the city are the proverbial walk in the park. Reading that article it is obvious from her incoherent ramblings that she has gathered information and forgot to analyse it before the output. Of course we are living in unprecedented times and a whole new perspective is required. That does not lose sight however of businesses across the world facing a huge and in many cases an impossible task to stay afloat. I notice the Aberdeen chairman is now saying no clubs can sustain 6 – 9 months of the current situation. By definition Helen Martin is more or less telling Anne Budge to abrogate her responsibilities. Other sections of the media took a similar stance when Anne  took a pro-active grasp on things. Planning ahead in what are catastrophic times is neither rocket science nor insensitivity to the sad and tragic consequences of this horrible virus.  On a happier note I hope to have the good lady back home by the week end. The quicker both of us are out of that environment the better.

There was a time when I bought this paper, every evening it was printed, and the Pink News as well. Even back then it was heavily leaning towards Hibs, with the football reporter, Stewart Brown, clearly a Hibs fan. We had to suffer the aforementioned Gibson then too. Then along comes David Hardie, a Hibs fan with a typewriter if ever there was one.

It got so weary for me I just stopped buying the thing.

On the subject of Helen Martin, I’m almost sure she had a go at us, in a vindictive way, about something else, when I was still buying the paper all those years ago. Maybe she has some kind of grudge against Hearts which has festered for years.

From what I remember, her column was a bomb scare back then, and it seems to be devoid of improvement.

Speaking of idiots, is John Gibson of the EEN still alive? That boy slavered pish on a daily basis when I used to buy the paper about 20 years ago. A Hibbie and a Tory to boot.

A combination that should be forceably quarantined.

She's one of the reasons I stopped buying the news years ago,, "bitching from bruntsfield". She probably thought at the time she was a ground breaking glass ceiling smasher.

When in truth she was a stooge.  The record had Joan Burnie before that. token women journalists that most feminist's would have been embarrassed reading.

Moaning about getting to the western general hospital for treatment when a match on at tynecastle

hardly a problem considering people have to travel from the borders and fife for treatment

you would think when going through a health scare little things like travelling across the city

wouldn’t bother you

The premise of the article is that the sporting fate of football clubs is unimportant.    She's right.

But if so... just null the season.   Nobody suffers.

So while the underlying premise is correct,  her specific reasoning is shite.

Unless she lives near Tynecastle and her treatment always coincides with Hearts matches (who has regular hospital treatment ever other Saturday, with some Fridays, Sundays, a handful of Tuesdays and a handful of Wednesdays?), I don't see how that can be true.

Either a bitter Hobo or just a stirrer.

She must be accident prone as she won't be getting treatment on weekday evenings or weekends...Basically she a nobody trying to use something from 3 weeks ago against Budge now. That is pretty cynical.

She has no real idea of being inconvenienced with regard to cancer treatment.

I should put her in touch with one of many local campaigners I know and she will fully understand the hardship (practical, medical and emotional) of travelling to the Western.

Cancer patients in Stranraer, and other parts of D and G, have to travel to Edinburgh for their treatment.

Perhaps she can lend her support and lobby the power brokers like the campaigners I know.

That’s what I call a problem travelling from Stranraer for treatment when you

have a health problem

He burst out laughing and his words " I'm a Hun". Not seen him in years, but a genuine good guy. I dare say, he will probably have a soft spot ER way.

I don’t buy that paper often these days. Quite frankly it was pieces of “journalism” like this that made my mind up about ignoring it. She has regularly spouted elitist nonsense on there. She obviously needs to get a life and live in the real world.

Also explains why she doesn't include match-days at Murrayfield as having any bearing on her travel to the western. Picking and choosing her grievances based on her own bias.

Her observation that followers of football 'spend money they can't afford' on football in lieu of home repairs or holiday insurance tells me all i need to know about her opinions on those following the working man's (or woman's) game. Has all the hallmarks of someone born with a silver spoon who has never had to worry about budgeting in her life and smacks of middle class elitism.

Also don't know how she is getting away with her casual snide suggestion that hearts fans are bigoted and homophobic.

It’s an insignificant characteristic for me and just as I’m happy to be pals with Protestants or Catholics, straights or gays

Not surprising but certainly disappointing.
