Interesting. Difficult to prove so the jury rightly found him not guilty. He still a dirty old letch though. IMO

Not guilty, then. Good. Surely a relief to people that these crimes never took place. Right minded people anyway.

Surely someone being wrongfully accused of serious crimes that could have seen them spend the rest of their life in jail, is the issue here? Not Scottish independence. 🤷‍♂️

And we'll find out what the political motive was. Albeit women's identities remain protected.

Some still of the women still work for Government.

Malinga the Swinga

Well there you go then. The Scottish people have spoken and Not Guilty he is (well apart from the one Not Proven one). Does throw up the question about Nicola Sturgeon and when she first new about. According to reports on news, she told Parliament it was one date, but in court, she knew about it 5 days before that. Lying to parliament is one thing, being caught lying is another.

Shame about Sturgeon because she is doing a reasonably good job in the virus management stakes.

Fall out may take a while but repercussions throughout political establishment will be seismic.

Alex Salmond saying other evidence he wanted brought at court will be made public in due course.

Look forward to seeing that.

Insufficient actual evidence for a conviction hence acquittal. Well never know what veracity the  alleged victims claims had. But they must wonder why they put themselves through it other than to confirm that he’s a creep.

Cant wait for Eck’s smug press conference.

Ends his brief statement by saying the Coronavirus is the most important thing and told off the reporters for being too close.

At least he wasn’t found shot dead in his car on a remote road in the hills. Methods appear to have changed over the decades.

Jesus. That’s a pretty horrendous case of putting your feelings of national identity before justice and people’s liberty.

2 things that struck me strongly

1. A long while ago, early on Alex Salmond said he hadn't been the best person he could.

2. Looking at him give that statement he seemed totally genuine.

I don't understand why the PF would bring a criminal case when the civil case fell on its arse and that has a lower burden of proof (see Goodwillie getting sued by his victim despite getting off on the criminal side).

Suspect theres more to this.

Well that was all a bit underwhelming wasn't it? Trial of the decade?

Barely a peep in the MSM during it and acquittal.

Lucky to get a jury together to even look at the case. Salmond is like Trump, a 5th Avenue murder would not affect his base.

Shocking implications for sexual assault and woman's rights in this wee backwards country.

Good outcome for those who value the principals of British Justice . A series of inapropriate pervy behaviour at worst prosecuted in the high court only because of an unreliable intent to rape charge trumped up because of who he is. What reputation he had left is probably correctly in tatters but none of the conduct should have seen the light of day in a courtroom ordinarily

Scotland and Edinburgh voted NO though. Surely that suggests it would be harder to find a jury that would be sympathetic towards him? If it was a verdict delivered on political grounds, as you appear to be suggesting. 🤷‍♂️

One thing I will say is that Salmond has been lucky his case has been overshadowed by the Covid 19 scare. Make no mistake the press would have ultimately been hounding him and this would ultimately have a influence over any jury.

Anyways, he goes off and continues his life. Would be funny if he makes a play to be first minister again. Nicola sturgeon could be vunerable ATM and Salmond might be able to take advantage (no pun intended lol)

Some folk wanted him found guilty because of his political beliefs.

The Mighty Thor

Now that the judicial process has run its course, questions need asked about how some of the charges got to the stage of being heard at high court level?

Not many folk coming out of this well at all.

Sorry I typed that in a clumsy way.

People made this out to be the trial that would end the SNP. And given the acquittal and lack of coverage during the trial, it has not turned out that way.

No, really not. Everything went through the due process, the jury whoever they were found 12 charges not guilty and one not proven. I would suggest serious questions need to be asked of the police and the procurator fiscal.
