Manchester City have been banned from the Champions League for the next two seasons by Uefa and fined €30m (£25m) after they were found to have seriously misled European football’s governing body and broken financial fair play rules.

Hugely damaging for them! That mean 5th spot in the EPL gets CL or does it go elsewhere in Europe based on merit etc?

Also it's a shame UEFA care more about money than racism. Their fines for racism have been embarrassing.

Breaches of money rules do matter, but you make a fair point.

Teams and players have been fined more for wearing and displaying t-shirts, UEFA don’t approve of.

Agree Andy, they should ban clubs that have a known history of racism & sectarianism.

Not convinced. None of the transfer bans handed out were lifted.

CAS will probably do it as the main investigator before any investigations effectively said what the punishment was going to be suggesting he had already found them guilty

Not sure how I feel about this one tbh. They were always gonna run in to some trouble somewhere along the line and it’s a good thing that uefa have shown they’ll punish teams no matter how big. Are Man City really that bad when it comes to this? Look at the wages United will spend, or PSG for example, they can’t be fully compliant surely?

In any case, reckon there will be a mass exodus at the end of the season and it’ll be so much harder to get players in. Does this mean 5th place in England will get CL football then?

Will be thrown out at the Court of Arbitration in Sport.

Will end up with a fine.

English sport in the spotlight for cheating though. With Saracens and now this. Giving Russia a good go for world cheats.

They’ve allowed the Spanish clubs, in particular, to do what they like with finances over many years. There was a time that the EU were said to have used the Spanish banks favourable treatment to Real Madrid as an example of how they were reckless with the borrowing they allowed.

It was certain that after 4 English clubs were in the European finals last season, that UEFA would look to satisfy displeasure from some of the previously dominant associations.

We are in a situation where countries own English teams now. The SKY cash has blown all reason away. Having said that, UEFA started all this by loading the Champions League in favour of the bigger clubs in Europe. No chance of a team like Malmo or even Celtic getting near a final now.

UEFA continuing their mission to keep the “traditional” clubs at the top and unchallenged, I have no great love for city but FFP is a joke.

Don’t see it like that at all. Man City are about as establishment as you can get now. Plenty former great European clubs don’t get a sniff nowadays, and that is down to UEFA and their insistence on seeding and putting fourth places teams from cash rich clubs ahead of the champions of smaller leagues.

Pep will be gone at end of season.

Of course there will be an appeal but there will be at least a one season ban

That does give him and the board something to think about

Oh and never mind the players that may  have arrived in the summer doing a 180 and looking elsewhere

The Liverpool era is truly about to take off

I'd like to see the winners of the FA Cup get the 4th spot. 5th place in the EPL is hardly an achievement. Might help the FA Cup regain some it's value, albeit temporarily.

Makes you think doesnt it. Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea are all crap. Especially the first two. Man City have been very poor compared to their normal performance (hard to maintain, I know) this season and with this they won't be able to compete with Liverpool for players. Spurs are Spurs.

I'd agree, this is Liverpool's for the taking. If they splash the cash, they can dominate the EPL etc for years to come as they have a huge advantage over City at the moment and no-one else is anywhere near them.

The overall picture of where money comes from in football is full of people pushing rules. Wolves and Aston Villa for example would have failed FFP if they hadn't been promoted to the EPL.

No idea, of the rights and wrongs. The EFL in England are starting to act. Derby are facing relegation though like City will fight their yet to be announced punishment all the way and they may be right to.

Be interesting to consider all the different financial situations.
