Non-Hearts football from Friday 14/2/20

Zlatanable

Tonight, there are two televised games, Alloa Athletic v Dundee United on BBC Scotland at 7pm, and Patrick Thistle v Raith Rovers semi-final of the Challenge Cup on BBC Alba at 7.35 pm. I can't recall a situation like that.

The other semi-final is on BBC Alba at 4pm, Invernes Caledonian Thistle v Rangers U21.

On Saturday, St Mirren are away to Motherwell (coincidentally, next Tuesday St Mirren are away to Motherwell in the Cup replay) and St Johnstone away to Ross County.

But Wolves v Leicester is one of biggest games in Europe this weekend.

So far Alloa have battled, no clear-cut chance anywhere though.

I predict Alloa won't be able to maintain this, and Dundee United will win.

So I will probably end up watching the Challenge Cup game later.

Looking like a matter or time until United take the lead.

Say it quietly for fear of invoking the super thread, but Shankland put a couple of chances wildly over the bar when unchallenged in the box.

If City's situation is known once all appeals are complete in time for next season.

If a place is free could it go to another country?

No idea why players and fans still celebrate goals when they happen.

The offside rule really isn't fit for purpose. Surely it's there to stop poaching, not someone marginally ahead of the defensive line

Reading Neilson this morning about targeting to win every game to beat Hearts points total in div 1, oh well

United are so bang average.

The rest of the Championship must be rotten which is good news for whoever finishes 11th.

Ended 0-0, I was wrong.

I ended up watching Top of the Pops, wrong again.

If TV didn't exist, the offside rule would be fine, human error/honest mistakes would level out, but the scrutiny given to such marginal decisions by Sky etc has led to VAR which has led to this shite.

What is ridiculous, TV or no TV, is the new handball rule.

Watching the wolves game without sound. The ball was played backwards wasn't it? Why was it given offside?

Just now, Mauricio Pinilla said:

The explanation is that he came from an offside position to get the ball, even though it was going backwards.

The nonsense of it all is that, pre-VAR, I don't think anyone is complaining about that goal.

You can be offside from a corner even though the ball is going back the way, the receivers ankle was offside

Didn't know that rule tbf. Guys in the back must've been giddy at being able to get one chalked off for that.

How?

http://www.thefa.com/football-rules-governance/lawsandrules/laws/football-11-11/law-11---offside

A player is in an offside position if:

  • any part of the head, body or feet is in the opponents’ half (excluding the halfway line) and
  • any part of the head, body or feet is nearer to the opponents’ goal line than both the ball and the second-last opponent

Quite enjoying the switching from Gaelic to English on the Partick Thistle v Raith Rovers commentary for some reason. Good game too.

Hearts U18s beat St Johnstone 3-0 tonight with goals from Schiavone, Kavanagh and Flatman. The score flattered Hearts a bit as Saints were well in the game until the 2nd goal went in with around 15 mins to go.

Yet another dreadful offering from the English Premier League.

Could count on one hand the number of truly entertaining matches they've produced.

Hypocrite me thinks

The definition of a hypocrite is a person who pretends to have certain beliefs, attitudes or feelings when they really do not. An example of a hypocrite is a person who says they care about the environment, but are constantly littering.

Or a person who moans constantly about the EPL yet admits to watching it......so you really

After the Hamilton game, next most important game today is Motherwell v St Mirren. Next week we play St Mirren while Motherwell play Hamilton. For the next 8 days, Motherwell are my second team. Two Hearts wins and two Motherwell wins and suddenly the league table looks a lot better.

Worryingly enough, that probably made sense in your head.

I don’t particularly like Rangers or Kilmarnock, but I watched their game on Wednesday night. Does that make me a fan of Rangers or Kilmarnock?

Nothing gladdens my heart more than knowing how genuinely upset you get when someone criticises your TV league. Proper warm feeling inside.

I wiki'ed him.

He moved from Hearts to Bristol City, where his dad was the manager, and played 174 times for them.

He only played 4 times for us, yet 20 times for Killie.

Liverpool are 0-1 up at Norwich, Mane. 5m left.

He was one of those quite critical of Hearts and how he was treated. 2005/6 season.

Not someone who has much credit.

Another symptom of the English Championship desperation to get to the EPL. Bristol City are one of the high spenders.
