He spoke well yesterday at the plot ceremony. Seems genuinely gutted that he can’t play at the moment. Doesn’t sound like he is due back soon but he spent time with all the fans getting pictures and Chatting.
Michael Smith was also there, another lovely guy. He’s due back Saturday but slim possibility for Wednesday. Stendel won’t start players who aren’t 100% fit.  He joked about how Sean Clare has nicked his position at RB. Said he likes Centre mid anyway. Said they enjoy training with Stendel, commented on how much energy and enthusiasm Stendel brings. Also said he wasn’t aware of any moves for him in the window and he’s quite happy at Hearts.

He started Sibbick and I'm not sure he is 100% fit. Not that I am complaining.

I feel for him, and me missing him as a player and being annoyed by it is nothing to how he will be missing it and annoyed. Sadly, it is now just a case of running down his contract as he will not play for us again imo.

If Levein hadn't continued to play him when injured he may never had been out so long.

I know ultimately the player could have refused to play but then how would that have gone down with his manager?

He could easily have had his hernia op in the winter shutdown and maybe missed a month but instead Levein encourages him to play and could possibly have ended the guys career.

I think it’s more the ones carrying injuries he won’t play (who would probably have been played under the previous regime) primarily because they won’t manage the speed and style of Stendel’s play but also  to stop them risking worse injuries).

He is not out because of the hernia.

Think he is our third most talented player after Souttar and Naismith. Not a chance we would be 11th if he was fit.

Fingers crossed he gets fit next year and is back to his best.

As for Haring, he's just seemingly been incredibly unlucky in what the diagnosis & recovery is for his actual underlying condition.

Would love to see him return.

Been there Mr Obama -  not so nice.  Wish you a speedy recovery

The wife had that a number of years ago.

Although she was in agony initially she made a full recovery.

She barely drinks alcohol but I’m not sure the hospital staff were convinced because that can kick it off.

Get well soon and take care.

If his career is finished the poor handling of his injury and treatment could well see us in court, tragedy for him as he’s a great player and a good guy. Hopefully he can make a comeback and get it sorted somehow.

The horrible irony is the CL might’ve  won a trophy if he had stayed on in May, Berra only came forward to win the header because he was off.

How many appearances has Naismith made in the same period?

I make it 40 games and has scored 19 goals and was our top scorer and player of the year last season.

Are you suggesting he's another crock and waste of time?

Or are you pointing out that Haring could be just as important a player for us?

Edit: Looks like it's the latter and you were having a go at the other poster.

Agreed but surely you understand the frustrations? For years we have been paying out more than we get back from most players. That been said this is clearly not Haring's fault and he gave his all every game so for ne me has earned my pateince.

Haring is absolute quality. I'd like to see us explore the Austrian market for players more often.

Its horrible to see. I don't want to speculate the impact of the final on him. As others have said Aguiar came back after 18 months. Just need to keep the faith with Haring at the moment.

There must be hip specialists that the top clubs use. I mean, I can't imagine Manchester Utd allowing Matic to have to rely on faith to get better.

Hopefully he gets a run out at least at the end of the season. Bloody shame for the guy.

I really like Hearing and desperately hope he can get his career back on track but I'm not sure how you arrive at the bit in bold above. Hasn't played in months, no clear date of return and rumours of retirement...think he sort of fits crock down to a tee as much of a shame as that is.

Was he crocked when he got here. No. Did his previous playing history suggest that he was injury prone. No. He got injured while with us and that is life

Someone like Walker or Naismith (great player) we’re more ‘crock’ signings due to their injury record before the came to us. We’ve signed them gambling in their ability to stay fit.

The fact that Haring continued to be played with his hernia issue has bound to have an adverse effect on him.

You don't need to have any medical qualifications to know that.

The normal recvovery time is generally not that long for fit footballers so my estimate of a month was over and above the winter shut down which does not seem unreasonable.

Did you think it was a good thing continuing to play him whilst requiring a hernia operation?

It’s not that unusual for players to play with hernias. Is that connected to his current issue?

Apparently so.  He played for months knowing he required surgery and has had issues in the pelvic area since the operation.

The report I read about him said he had seen another specialist and he recommended total rest with no training.

  • 4 weeks later...

Peter Haring sent to another specialist as Hearts wonder when he will return

Exact cause of Austrian midfielder’s pain difficult to diagnose

Friday, 28th February 2020, 6:10 am

Hearts midfielder Peter Haring will visit another medical specialist next week, with manager Daniel Stendel admitting no-one knows why he is still in pain and unable to train.

Officials at the Edinburgh club are growing increasingly concerned about Haring’s prolonged recovery from an injury in the groin/pelvic area.

He has not played at all this season and was ordered by doctors in January to rest until discomfort subsided. However, the ongoing pain remains an issue Hearts cannot get to the bottom of.

The 26-year-old is to see a specialist next week in the hope of unearthing the root cause of a problem which has sidelined him since the Scottish Cup final in May last year.

He underwent double hernia surgery in December 2018 and managed to play 11 times during the second half of last season, but has not been available since.

Stendel told the Evening News: “Nobody can say: ‘This is the answer, this is the reason, this is the plan.’ Peter has done a lot of things, we tried a lot of things with him for him to come back really quick, but the reality is not like this.

“He is still feeling pain and he cannot train. We wonder when he can train in the next couple of weeks.

“The difficult thing with his injury is nobody can say: ‘This is the reason and when we do this, he can train tomorrow.’ It is hard for his head, it is hard for the team and for everyone but this is the situation.

“He has an appointment next week and maybe after this appointment we will know more from the doctor.”

Hearts are determined to give Haring as much time and support as he needs to recover. He is seen as an important part of the team even though he has yet to play under Stendel, who only took over as manager last December.

The Austrian’s contract at Tynecastle Park runs until summer 2022.

I know this has been mentioned before but I wonder if his problem could be similar to Micky Cameron's.

He had pelvic issues and could not get to the bottom of the cause until he saw someone in France I think it might have been who said his jaw was malaligned and had a brace made which he wore and the problem was solved.

He took an injection to play in the cup final when he and Levein knew it could set him back. I hope missing an entire season and potentially being retired at 26 was worth it.

Gutted for the guy, he's a good player and put his body on the line but perhaps he needed protecting from himself? Shite situation anyway.

While I don't know it not to be the case, I doubt you do know that to be the case, so not sure we should be stating as fact that playing in the final has exacerbated the injury to this level.  I don't think Levein and his team handled injuries well, but I don't think we can levvy ruining a guy's career at him unless we know that for certain.

I feel heart sorry for Peter - such a good player and seems a top lad too.  Feel heart sorry for us too!  Our biggest issue especially of late has been a midfielder who takes responsibility and that's  him to a tee.

Do you actually believe if anyone had thought this would be the outcome he'd have played in the final ?

Many players (more than we know maybe?) take chances with injuries in one off games . Many get away with it .

Hopefully they get to the bottom of his problem .

Cameron's solution was a gum shield . Fraser Wishart had a problem most of his career it was finally solved with a special insole . I'd assume various specialists have looked at these kind of solutions.

If they don't get to the bottom of this sooner rather than later, it doesn't look good for big Pete.

Such a shame for the guy and a big loss for us. Players have come back from very severe injuries though, so here is hoping it happens for Pete.

From that story:

“First of all, I got an injection last season, before we played the cup final against Celtic,” he told Hearts TV. “After that I felt really good. There was no pain at all so I said that I was fit and I want to play that game. It was not really like the gaffer rushed me to play or anything like that. I was really comfortable with my body and I felt fine to play the game. That’s why I played. If I would’ve felt that I couldn’t help the team because I was sore then I wouldn’t have played. It was the first cup final in my life and it was an experience that nobody can take away from me."

I'm really struggling to see how you interpreted that as he and Levein knew it could set him back. But hey it's another nice looking stick, why not beat someone with it.

Levein said: "Peter is progressing, but slowly. I knew I was taking a bit of a risk by playing him in the Scottish Cup final but I thought it would settle down over the summer; however, he still feels something and we are taking a wee backwards step before we push on again.

Happy?

The crack is if you have to take an injection to play one football match, cup final or not, you're not fit. It was a gamble and it has backfired.
