Guess he wont be treated like a diddy by our media now.

Steady, he would need to win the league before that happens !

To those who didn't want to give him time, get tae you shower. Get a couple more of his signings and next season will be fantastic.

What Stendel has already shown is why the bootroom idea was utterly flawed.

We are already seeing the benefits and freshness of a cathartic clear out.  That would never be possible when managers were only ever promoted and not hired.

The Levein plan was for stale, negative, percentage safety first football.  It was dire and unlikely ever to achieve anything.  Clearing that out is a joy.

I agree with you to an extent

However what it shows is how much you need to change a squad when a manager has a different style of play to implement

Let’s flip it round

Lets assume Stendel is a huge success - if he is he will move on maybe even at the end of this contract. When he moves wouldn’t we want, say Andy Kirk if he shown enough to stay on as our next manager - or Naismith even - as a basis upon which we keep this style of football?

Its a bad idea when it fails but it’s a great idea if it works...

Was going to start a thread but will stick it on here, Thought young guys Henderson and Moore did well and we still have Meshino ,Walker,Avdijaj, Cochran ,Hickey. We could be building a league winning team, stay up and roll on next season.

Which is why the pragmatic solution is the right one.

The idea that the next best manager was always going to be found in the bootroom was just foolish.

With Levein yes.

Who knows how Stendel will structure it all and what our coaching team will learn from it and how they will develop.

Which manager came from the bootroom?

You may want to check on the history of that term.

That did cross my mind.

That first sentence says it all.  Assuming Smith and Hickey are fit, what a squad he'll have to choose from.  Best in years.

Smith has been one of our most consistent players this season and I almost forgot he was out. Naismith said in post match that there's now real competition for places and that really showed. Hopefully the likes of Avdijaj who's just arrived will have watched that performance and will be raring to tear St Johnstone a new one. Meshino likewise now he's rested up after the U23 tournament. Feels like an eternity we've had a full strength squad to choose from. It's a good feeling and a real step in the right direction.
