Cases have risen massively in France. They are averaging about 1,600 new cases per day just now.

Deaths do not seem to be increasing tho.

I suspect that’s down to it spreading amongst younger people, hospitals being better prepared and having more effective medications at hand.

As long as deaths are not increasing, that’s a positive thing in my opinion.

Do you think that you are better placed to give your opinion than a Professor of Epidemiology?

Do I think that we've heard enough from modelling scientists about what could, might, could possibly, might have, would have happened.  Yes. By all means, you hang on predictive modelling as if it were fact. Each to their own.

It was a Professor in Town Planning who made such an erse of the traffic flow in Edinburgh several years ago. But, hey  ignore the road users, local busimess owners, professional drivers. ...he's a Professor don't you know👍

It was a ridiculous question. If everyone followed your thought process, we would all agree, and not challenge, the opinions of every so-called expert , most of whom disagree with each other. Go figure🤣

858 what? Deaths? There are 7500 each day in the States. Are they deaths WITH covid, DUE to Covid or just anyone who has ever had it? Who knows?  You certainly don't so best not to spout nonsense

You are the one who quoted numbers to show the virus in America was dying out. Then, when faced with facts you don't like you suddenly don't like the figures anymore. Laughable

That will be catching some unreported deaths from the weekend where there were 480 and 566 reported.

No argument there, just pointing out Enzo was talking rubbish

Brilliant. Quote figures and then when figures are quoted back at you that don't fit your argument say the figures aren't trustworthy. How can you possibly be wrong when you adopt that approach.

Exactly but doubt he will have an answer

Are you going to answer it or just continue avoiding it like a conservative MP?

And do I think that people with absolutely zero expertise on a topic should not challenge the opinion of an expert in the field? Indeed I do. They should be challenged by their peers, not every pleb off the street.

Of course you aren't. We all know the answer is a resounding NO.

Given that you quite obviously know considerably less than someone you've already told us isn't worth listening to, we can deduce that everything you have to say on the subject should be ignored.

1504 in the daily deaths graph. What are you looking at?

Edit - you're looking at deaths so far today. It's still the early morning in America.

Worlds ether updates during the day. The 12 deaths are from the only two States that have reported figures so far. Check it around 6 pm for proper figures

I quoted the figures  from one day. Another poster didn't like those figures so quoted me a higher figure from anothet day. I've consistently questioned the validity of stats quoted, .more or less from Day 1. Bash on and post nonsense though

You are beyond parody. You quoted a low figure because it fed into your erroneous theory that the virus was dying out in the USA. As everyone knows, the figures are always lower from the weekend. Deaths are rising in the USA, nobody but you can deny this. Deaths are going down in the UK which is good news

Here we go again, round and round in circles. What a limited , narrow thought process you have. B follows A  so A caused B. It would be  intriguing to know how you process all the conflicting opinions from all the "experts ". Do you agree with Professor Hugh Pennington, for example? He's a Professor so, presumably the answer is Yes. Your head must be spinning with all those differing opinions. I recommend thinking for yourself👍. I'm jumping off the roundabout now👍

Good, off you pop.

I'd certainly agree that Prof Pennington is considerably more knowledgable than me.

I responded to a post from our resident Trump obsessed American doom monger who pointed out 1000 were dying a day. I quoted a figure from another day. That's all.

You used the numbers of a day that always has a lower rate than every other day of the week in order to try and push your false narrative that the death rate in America is plummeting.

With no deaths in Scotland for about a month now folk are having to argue about death rates in other countries.

I think there are two major problems with this thread (and one of the reasons I've tended to avoid it for a while now): (i) there's a shed load of political bickering and point-scoring goes on, (ii) there's a constant fight between science/information and dogma/misinformation. I hadn't realised quite how many folk develop conceptions of the world and then attempt to justify and defend those by twisting or ignoring reality as they see fit.

It's almost as if we're starting to live in an age of anti-enlightenment. And this thread encapsulates it.

Why are teachers so worried about going back?  Or is it just teachers of a certain sex and in a certain age bracket that are worried?  And now they are to get on demand testing even if they are showing no symptoms.

Where was that additional support for retail staff and lorry drivers for example all through lock down when they had to keep the country functioning?  Sure they did not get offered that.

A road haulage firm or shop struggling with Covid doesn't have the same political capital as Schools. Realpolitik!!

Yet even then Russia or the Soviet Union if you like sent in the tanks in response to popular dissent.  I think you know what the response would have been (and in fact was) in the case of dissent within the Soviet Union.
