More minor cases = more serious cases = more deaths

That surely doesn’t still need to be pointed out does it?

If you want zero deaths to continue you need to prevent the illness spreading at all, not wait until it’s spreading easily.

More minor cases simply equals more minor cases.

It may also come with increased serious cases and potentially deaths.

I agree with your last paragraph though 👍

I don't care if he's a good guy,  bad guy or a giraffe.   His comments were horrendously ignorant.    The sort of abject ignorance that contributes towards significant harm against the efforts to keep a lid on this epidemic.

You think this sort of thing can continue? There might never be a vaccine. Your life as you know is therefore over. Keep locking down? Keep crippling businesses and people’s livelihoods? This isn’t a pop at you at all mate I just don’t see how this can continue. Lockdown must come to an end imo. We need to go the Swedish route or there will be nothing left. The amount of job losses already is frightening.

Most sensible people realise that people don't instantly end up in ICU and die after catching Covid. This spike could easily spiral and lead to death and ICU cases 2-3 weeks from now.

If we want to keep the deaths at zero we need to take action.

This can’t ever happen imo. This isn’t just going to go away no matter how long you keep shops and restaurants and bars closed. It’s waiting for them to open again and then bang back to square one. It’s crazy to think otherwise imo.
I can’t get my head around people who just think locking everything down will work. I’m reading so many people already who will refuse a vaccine, then what? It’s keeps spreading and mutating and lockdown after lockdown?

Just watching the daily briefing . Poor workers in pubs etc being kicked in the teeth by the SG due to slight rises in infections . Playing havoc with workers mental health and income . Sickening . And in other news those in ICU down by one to 3 and NO deaths again .

Pretty sure you're serious but it's hard to tell on this joke of a thread now 😁

Blame the pubs and their patrons for not sticking to the social distancing guidelines.

You would need to see that to say for certain, it can still spread even in the most sanitised of environments as the deaths in the NHS show.

Yes guilty are charged with that posting. Im flattered and in some ways freaked out your recall it.  However it has backfired on you as it evidences how much I've moved on mentally since then.  Yes like most at the beginning of the pandemic was shitting myself,  I was worried i would die, my family would and other loved ones.  Therefore i became very anxious , probably over anxious and read too much online about the certain  " mortality " of the CV.  However through the months I've became more relaxed and educated myself more about the virus and read tons of info online via this , twitter and other forums.  In interpreting this I have made my own risk assessments and now I am far more happier and relaxed about the whole pandemic. I am out and about.  I recently went to Glasgow for a day and night out. Been on buses , indoor and outdoor pubs and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and the good times with friends.Something i didn't have cooped up for months..  I was invited to Derry for a weekend but declined that due to being on a plane ( not ready for that yet ) .    LIke i said before the stats ( the important ones ie hospital admissions and deaths) are going down. I'm MORE anxious about a return to a full lockdown than the virus in fact.  AT the present time i feel like i'm living again. I make no apolgies for that.

Probably because the people who you would be relying on to self isolate are the arseholes who were crammed into the boozer ignoring the advice to socially distance in the first place.

Tbh given the daily pictures I’ve seen on social media of people drunkenly cuddling randoms in pubs and bar, sticking a Perspex shield on the bar or 2m lines on the pavement outside seem sadly irrelevant.

I felt for you reading your posts before as it was clear you were having a tough time with it all. Hopefully what you were doing made you feel better at the time though and served it purpose. Keep positive and as you say assess your own risk in situations and make  call you're comfortable with personally.

Indeed. So if the 54 infectious people, and their households, are following the stay at home order then why do nearly quarter of a million people need to be treated like infants?

In a couple of weeks, once the flare up is down again due to imposed restrictions, the same process will happen again.

Is there a minimum number of infections in a certain geographic area that will trigger implementation of restrictions or is it at the whim of the government? Is there a max number of people in ICU before we get told to spend money like it’s going out of fashion again? Or is it all being made up, at least partly with one eye on the polls?

Good points...

The UK Govt are far from perfect and have made mistakes, but they have made some good moves too.  Same with the Scottish Govt.

I reckon we'll only be able to judge for sure when we  eventually come out the other side of this.  It's just a shame that "politics" has come back into it.  At the start of this it was refreshing to see politicians put people at the heart of what they were doing rather than party strategy.

Yes they did. Prelims were sat at the end of January.

Or at some schools, in November meaning half at most curriculum was covered. Still, carry on backing up Swinney and his useless cohorts on the shambles they have created. Even then, passing prelim has meant nothing as grades spiralled downwards once SQA got to work. Perhaps if you actually researched topic instead of relying on SNP for responses, you might actually learn something.

Let's just lambast the efforts of the government to suppress any concerning outbreaks.   "Sickening".    Let's jump up and down until we see the coffins.

In other news... let's hand over our bank cards and pin numbers to muggers and not bother about it until we see our bank balances going down.

It has become quite clear that, for the political powers here at least, being seen and heard daily by as many people as possible is now a welcome part of their job. The feeling of power they now have is seductive, as can be seen throughout history. Controlling, rather than bettering, people’s lives is now their goal.

Pretty much anyone who wants to a leader of a political party is by definition going to have a bit of an ego on them. That’s nothing new really.

Mate I’m almost amused at people putting time scales on this. How many businesses can cope with another 6-12 months of this?
Im genuinely concerned about the state of the country. This isn’t going away in 6 or 12 months.
A vaccine is almost pointless imo for the amount of people who will refuse it.
I had a guy tell me he’d watched something the other night that had brought it all home to him apparently. He’s normally not one for these posts so I asked what it was thinking maybe I’d be surprised. I wasn’t surprised at all. It was all the same garbage I’ve read a hundred times already. Minutes in and Bill Gates etc were getting mentioned as well as things like mercury in vaccines and fluoride in the water supply. Soros and the Rockefellers etc and it just kept coming. Millions of people are down these rabbit holes that aren’t coming back out of them.
The world is messed because of social media. Absolutely and utterly messed.

Some pubs aren’t adhering to the rules. I’ve been in two pubs since lockdown and one was table service and wear masks when not seated with one metre distancing. The other was bar service in a small bar area with people standing shoulder to shoulder and chatting and lots of folk walking in and out from the beer garden, going over to other folks tables for a chat. Spoke to workmates and they’ve been in pubs that are open as normal with no regard for coronavirus.

In a nutshell.  Nothing is going to change for a long time. Forget about a vaccine for it.  Drug treatments are the way forward for those critically ill in hospital.  Although things wont change we can change our attitude towards it.

The most galling thing about having to read the unadulterated ignorance being shown here is the unthinkable prospect of the whole country having to undergo another full lockdown or something similar,   due to concerning outbreaks not being dealt with by the government.     It's expressly because everyone wants to retain the freedoms we've been given back that these measures are so vital.    The attitudes being displayed here is the thing that's sickening.     These attitudes profoundly endanger what we do have and what we are able to do.    To have sensible caution and understanding thrown back in your face is quite difficult to stomach.

Yes we do have to get on with our lives.   We have to live with the presence of the virus.   But we can do that if we accept that our governments need to suppress troubling outbreaks.    If transmission is fully accepted and allowed to go unchecked then we wont have our current freedoms.    A few people on here reallg need to give themselves a shake.     It's a disgusting type of ignorance that can end up punishing everyone.
