James McAvoy donates £275,000 to an NHS equipment fundraiser.

Worthy of a mention.

Pretty cool. But as many have pointed out, why is that needed?

I know nows not the time but BoJo and his team coming down with mild symptoms has worked out very well for them and the difficult questions they should be facing.

The majority of our cases are in Madrid. A capital city compared to the outbreak in largely rural areas in the north of Italy.

We were slow going into lockdown though there’s no denying that.

Lombardy isn’t exactly rural, it’s the richest, most populous and industrialised region in all of Italy(& one of in Europe). It’s not Madrid buts hardly farmland either.

If we don't have a vaccine then the Christmas events like the market will be off as well - can't have large gatherings of people.

International travel will be pretty much a gonner with anyone entering a country having to go through a couple of weeks quarantine each way, making a 2 week break take 6 weeks.

Having done what, just 10 days of lockdown so far there has to be a period of time beyond which the public at large just won’t tolerate it and comply any longer. A week of this and folk are starting to get bored and the novelty will wear off very quickly. 3 months is a huge ask on this type of lifestyle but doable for most I suppose. If you start taking it to six months and beyond with severe restrictions people en masse are going to rebel against that.

I reckon when we’ve peaked or plateaud and the numbers go back to tolerable levels, and folk keep taking sensible precautions the government will want to lift restrictions fairly speedily. It can’t go on paying 80% of people’s wages and all the other measures they’ve taken without taking the country into a depression.

Fatigue of controls is a known factor for the government.    May and June could bring some really nice weather.    The mind boggles at the possible ****wittery ahead.

Reminds me of a story from 2017 when we had the big solar eclipse. One woman requested that they move the eclipse from a school day to a weekend so she could watch it with the kids.

I'm not so sure that restrictions will be lifted speedily. It is likely that they will be lifted in the reverse order to which they were imposed, so firstly I'd expect to see more people going back to work on constructions sites, self traders etc., then non essential retail outlets and public transport, followed by reopening schools. The last ones to be lifted will be re-opening pubs/clubs/restaurants, and finally mass gatherings (i.e. football).

Home working, social distancing and washing hands frequently will remain as recommended practices for months to come.

Was just in Tesco Haddington where they have arrows pointing you down each shopping aisle and markers every 2 meters for social distancing. Half way round and this lady comes right up to me when I'm taking yogurts from a shelf. I reminded her that she was to keep 2 meters as that was what the markers were for. Her reply "how come, is this your personal space"

Had a similar incident in ASDA except I struggle to hold my anger. just shouted at them about making up their own rules. Some people just haven't got a clue

Sainsbury's Murrayfield been quite civilised each time I've been in, queueing system working and the limited number of folk in the shop giving plenty space. Not come across any arseholes yet.

I do find the panic when folk suddenly come across someone else in the isle a little amusing. It's akin to a learner driver suddenly faced with an oncoming car!

Agreed I don’t think they’ll officially lift anything before they get compelling medical advice to do it. I was talking more about people’s willingness to comply for 6 months and perhaps beyond and the impact on the economy will be a pressing if contradictory consideration

Goes beyond that at times.  I heard 2 lassies in Tesco just the other day having a convo that went something like this:

Female 1: I'm needing to get new trainers

Female 2: I think JD sports and the likes are closed

Female 1: Huh?

Female2: Something to do with a virus going about

Female 1: Are the shop staff all sick?

Female 2: I dunno

Female 1: What virus is it? ...

Some people simply never watch the news, read the news or even talk to people who do either. There are still some clueless folk going around.

Are the Americans not refusing inward flights from the UK?

If so, why on earth would there be one way flights from, what many think will end up being, the worst affected country on the planet?

If this is true, it is a scandal worthy of politicians at the very top being sacked.

Presume those airlines lobby the government and the government goes, aye OK in you come. I doubt they're rescue flights...

Things I never thought I'd see

A sign on the Diggers windows telling people there are no toilet rolls or soap held on the premises

Are there really people willing to break in obtain a loo roll or soap ?

Essex police put up a post on social media earlier this week of a van they'd chased down, full of stolen bog roll and hand sanitizer.

While accepting the gravity of the situation and the need for regular media updates on precautions we should take, watching TV for a while this morning it struck me how alarming could be all these so called experts who come on  and expound their personal theory and could or do cause alarm with their pronouncements .

It would seem strange not to know about it now, but up until last Monday, my mates dad was completely oblivious. Doesn't watch the news, listen to the radio or buy a paper. He'd been arsing box sets on Netflix for a month. Didn't have a clue other than "Was that no that thing China had at Christmas?".

Is there any knowledge regarding how long the antigen can continue to provide a positive result for the test?    If there has been a significant percentage of asymptomatic / very mild infection then presumably a large percentage of those cases would no longer have sufficient antigen to register a positive result.

There used to be a sign in a boozer near the docks in Aberdeen back in the 80s. The 1980s, that is.

We do not have toilet facilities for ladies.

I think they're simply being frank and also feel they have to be. This is developing into a catastrophic situation and we already have people complaining about what's currently the only answer. Isolation.

If these people need to be given the brutal truth to shut the f#*%*  up and accept this is the way it has to be then I see no other effective method to present it to them.

Experts need to be brutally frank and open.

Far too many people still don't get how serious this is and are flouting the guidelines, putting the lives of others at risk and dragging out the duration of the outbreak.

They need telt.

The Bridge bar? Still has no ladies toilet as far as I know, although it’s been a few years since I was in it.

I have taken to limiting the amount of news bulletins I watch or read on the internet.  Its not good for people's mental health to keep reading this, and so much is speculation and guesswork rather than facts that are out there.

I'm not trying to deny the facts, just pointing out that spending too much time listening to these people isn't good for you.

From the briefing I would say they are not ruling out an extended lockdown but the deputy CMO isn't ruling out an on-off approach as well.    They're not really committing to much at all.    The minister says they want to treat the measures as that of consent.    For me it's simply not the right message.    Way too soft touch.

If she says now lockdown til august people wont go for it.

Cant commit on much until they see how the numbers are doing in a few weeks time.

Personally I think the 1st phase lockdown will last 6 weeks minimum.

I'll take it if it results in a return to near normality afterwards.     Maybe it's that or we continue with a threat in our midst for longer.

I agree the current lockdown will run to 6 weeks with probably further businesses removed from the essential list to take more people off the streets.

You will take being stuck in your house for the next 4 months, only being allowed out to do some grocery shopping and a bit of excercise? **** that.

Who knows if this social distancing/staying at homes will even work. Isn't working in Spain or Italy. Maybe half the population already has it.

I'll heed the advice for a while longer but **** doing it till August.

Edit to say not having a go at you
