I'm reminded of when someone pointed out that the difference between capitalism and socialism is that under capitalism, one lot of people oppresses another, while under socialism it's the other way round.

Yip. If anyone thinks that appearing on mainstream TV, or having your moment standing  at a podium next to the PM, gives your words more credibility, then they are sadly mistaken.

As you say, Guv, the whole lot of them, politicians, scientists, pharma companies,  benefactors; they are all in it to enhance their own vested interests.

Oh right, hundreds of thousands of smart kids went to school, got into science and became scientists on a voyage of discovery, only to universally turn their back on their search for truth and collectively lie to oppress the world's population, in order to enhance their own interests. (Free Bunsen burners? A new lab coat?)

And the people fighting for truth aren't those smart kids who dedicated their lives to scientific discovery, it's the conspiracy theorist gobshites who couldn't get any further than high school science, they're the ones who have credibility in your eyes.

A couple of them, aye.

Bet they enjoyed going away and learning about science so they'd be taken seriously and get the necessary qualifications.

The point is that Enzo's talking shite on a WMD scale. Scientists don't have credibility because they stand next to politicians, they're put next to politicians because they have credibility.

It's an attempt to put internet shite and scientific consensus on the same footing, such crap.

I'm not saying scientists are always right by the way, I'm not saying that they know everything or have got anything in particular right or wrong, but at least they have a ****ing clue. This anti-intellectualism is dangerous.

Noticed on the BBC web this morning of a report published surrounding four of the UK's largest railway stations extensive checks were carried out in January and June of this year and no trace was found of any Covid 19 particles on Trains, Escalators etc sounds positive hopefully as i'm off to London on Wednesday with the wife for a five day break can't wait to actually stand at a bar and not have to do table service.

I'm not sure it will happen to the extent predicted either but I'm a layman and Neil Ferguson is a scientist and he said it's almost a certainty we'll get to 100,000 cases with the peak between August and mid-September. We're currently 2 doublings away from that so it's going to have to start soon. I reckon this Friday we'll start to see it ramp up.

I don't think we're going to see it ramp to 100k any more.

I admit I was a bit negative about the Delta variant and a third wave - I thought it was going to be an absolute mess. In some aspects my fears about case numbers were right and we saw a peak on graphs not far off the January peak. What I was wrong about was that the peak tailed off and the hospitalisations/deaths didn't get out of control.

Up here I think there's a link between cases and school holidays - for that basic (unscientific/unproven) reason i think England's case numbers will slowly drop throughout August before it ramps again in late Sept. Not sure what the levels will be though - I'm sort of looking at it thinking we're heading toward ever decreasing circles of case numbers... we'll keep having mini waves that tail off over the next 1-2yrs.

Last bit - just an opinion.

To be honest, Taffin. It appears that the 100k boat has sailed. Ferguson hasn't got a great reputation with his predictions and cases were originally predicted to keep increasing from the 50k on freedom day up to 100k by mid August.

They're now heading the other way, down by 30% in a week and, equally, you could say,  we're one or 2 reductions away from very low case rates.

Hopefully it doesn't get too out of hand and instead the mini-waves remain manageable. I think in the main everyone down here has remained quite cautious. Wedding I was at recently had a lot of attendees and there was dancing and singing but everyone still did a lateral flow test beforehand. Removal of restrictions doesn't seem to have flowed through to a complete state of anarchy.

I see he was copping some flack from a political scientist and the American guy who predicts elections for his 'overconfidence'. He must have based it on something though, I'm not sure how he could be so spectacularly wrong, surely it's just a matter of time.

I thought it was 2-3 weeks before we'd see the impact...meaning this week is the week really. Fingers crossed we get through to the middle of next week on around where we currently are. If so, I'll feel quietly confident the plan is working... albeit I'm not sure what that plan would be given they'd have planned based on Ferguson's modelling (?).

1 hour ago, **** the SPFL said:

i just find it too slow have sat at tables for twenty minutes waiting on drinks coming pain in the backside imo.

Booked seats on Saturday for 2pm.

Sat waiting till Table was ready at 2.15.
Then had to download app from

thr table I was sat at and couldn’t get signal so had to join their WiFi ( should have done this on arrival I know)

Anyway after a carry on trying to order a mixer for the vodka the drinks arrived just after 230pm.
30 mins to get one drink leaving me with 1 hour 30 mins of my booked two hour slot

I asked if the person could just take my order but she said no and to use the app. Was on the verge of just walking out but knew I wouldn’t get in anywhere else so just stayed

No going back to a pub till I can walk up and order at the bar
