How would you feel about her going on the pill?  Roughly 1 in 3000 chance of a blood clot compared to 1 in 200k after a vaccine.

Nothing to do with the blood clot issue I’ve no concerns on that score. I’m fairly relaxed about her going on the pill since you asked but would rather she used proper protection as she’s been educated about.

Also getting my 2nd today. Off to the EICC which is one I haven't been to before. Hopefully going to take advantage of Ubers £15 voucher to get me there. If not, the bus will do!

Got my second last night.  Felt a bit RAF after the first one.  Body a bit sore etc.  Feeling no side effects at all today.

Anyone get a bad day after their second jag?

Good luck, if it’s similar to my experience the bus will be full of others going there too.

Portugal about to pull the rug out on the masses of Brits who have booked holidays there?  An example of why international travel will never return to stability until vaccination levels reach a better co-protective,  co-beneficial state.

As another poster said International travel is still going to be dodgy, certainly for this year, maybe into next year.

I've had the same one.  Got a bit of inflammation after the first one that caused issues with another condition but nothing this time.

Glad that I've had both jags now.  Feels good.

No I will not give it a rest.  They were clearly too lax.  I don't tend to criticise either government now but I will when I see an obvious error.

In your opinion they were too lax.  The reality is, and I just googled this to check, they were one of the first counties anywhere in the world to recognise this issue and ban travel to/from India.  Way ahead of Europe, US and even other parts of Asia.

Eh, yes she did. She said it was a health and safety risk and a dangerous situation.

No, that was aimed at the actions of the home office for creating a health and safety risk.  It’s absolutely clear from her tweet that’s what she meant by that.  She said not one word anywhere about crowds dispersing.

It's the bigger picture on travel that's the problem.

UK could have stopped all entry last February or March. Maybe saved a lot of lives. Mostly flights have gone back and forward as normal.

Being the least worse doesn't preclude from being too slow.  Lots of nations still aren't learning to react quickly enough.

What happened in Glasgow that sparked the last few pages? I've not seen anything on the BBC or the Guardian.

You have to read the Guardian to be in the know about every protest that fits the Guardian agenda. I am not saying this particular protest wasn't justified in itself (though obviously attracted the usual Guardianista hangers on).

I liked the quote about a triumph for Glaswegian solidarity -  a well known trait of Glaswegians. Well within their own sectarian groups at any rate.

Yes looking forward to using a few vouchers for meals which I couldn’t use due to covid . Two steaks and wine at “ twenty “ in Princes street is one of them . Other is for a pub in Newington . Be nice to actually sit in a pub / restaurant and have a drink with food ! Happy days are here again 👍

Out on the Friday night for some grub and a few drinks with the wife. Looking forward to it. Got a feeling I'll end up a mates house for the final on Saturday then who knows what'll happen. Hopefully celebrating a Perth cup double. Have been to a few places since they reopened indoors and they've all been fairly busy so I'm hoping they're doing well and continue to. We're booked into go to Skye at the start of June for our anniversary as well. Twelve chimneys booked as I have heard it's pretty good. Hard to get a booking but I got lucky!

Scientific chat about how any possible variant of higher transmissibility coming along now is a bit of a concern compared to coming along in the autumn when vaccination levels will be at such a high level that the virus would be unable to achieve any spread.  This is the race between virus and vaccine that was theorised weeks ago.  At the moment there's still a sufficiently large population without vaccine protection who are potentially susceptible to severe disease.  Restrictions virtually ending is a new phase in the game.  We've never yet seen a period when suppression has been removed from the equation whilst infection rates are moderate and rising in areas.

Some scientists aren't even sure that the India variant is more transmissible.  They're saying there are indications that it isn't out-competing the dominant variant and it's rise is due to accelerating importation.  If true then that's a giant **** up by the UK gvt for being too ****ing stupid and slow to get on top of travel in from India,  etc.

The race is definitely on now.  At the moment it looks like there will be some subsequent damage but it should be short lived.  The vaccine will eventually win.

Once again Johnson's government made a total mess of what should have been a very quick and simple decision, to shut the border to India straight away with no grace period.

I suspect the potential of a trade deal (which the Tories are absolutely desperate for) swung the decision to allow a full week of full 747's to land in the UK where the non-existent quarantine controls meant that the seeding of the Indian variant throughout the UK was pretty effective.

No lessons learned over the last 15 months and now he is trying to ram the toothpaste back into the tube by offering mass vaccinations in the areas affected.

Hopefully the health authorities can control the spread, however getting some of the immigrant communities to observe the basic rules during the pandemic has proven to be a challenge.

Shutting the border to India ‘with no grace period’ would have disproportionately affected many UK citizens of Indian heritage. No doubt you’d then have been on here accusing Boris of racism.

I'm not sure how preventing continuation of a pandemic that has killed more than 127,000 people would be racist. It's a public health emergency. Shut the border and if you're not in then you're not in and you can then come to the UK when it's under control.

Portugal about to pull the rug out on the masses of Brits who have booked holidays there?  An example of why international travel will never return to stability until vaccination levels reach a better co-protective,  co-beneficial state.

Portugal has confirmed today that British tourists will be allowed to enter the country from next Monday, after it held crunch talks with the EU about non-essential travel. They had been expected to lift its ban on European tourists entering, including Britons, from this Sunday, but yesterday it emerged that this might not be until May 30th.

This lunchtime, the country's foreign ministry confirmed that it would revoke the 'essential travel' restrictions in place until Sunday, meaning that Britons can visit.

A Visit Portugal spokesman said in a statement today: 'The options are wide for the British Tourists to visit Portugal, from any point. People from the United Kingdom have visited Portugal and celebrated our culture, traditions, landmarks, history, and enjoyed our warm hospitality for decades. We look forward to welcome all travellers coming from the UK.'

Was great to see the people of Glasgow standing up to the ridiculous decision of the UK home office. Make no mistake this was a calculated decision by Patel to try and humiliate the FM and enrage the Muslim community on Eid Al Fitr. Thankfully it is Patel that is left totally humiliated. And an added bonus is to see the rage of our resident SG haters on here, hilarious.

Proud to say I was there yesterday. I sneaked out of work early and sprinted non stop til I got there. If I was working from home, I only had to walk across the road.

What an atmosphere, very friendly, cops were sound and openly spoke of their opposition to the what the van was doing.

Half an hour after I arrived, the message got our that our neighbours were being let go. It was an incredible event. My first protest and certainly wont be my last. An amazing buzz seeing the two lads walk out that van and we all marched together to the local Muslim centre.

I could hardly sleep last night, my heart was racing til about 2am.

I'm sure this protest was all well intentioned, but all it did was defer the deportation, which will happen during the night any time without notice.

My folks saw one happen the other week through the night  in Barnton.  A Pakistani family, presumably with relatives over that outstayed their allowed time.

You stated uk(England) was quick to ban flights from India. I merely pointed out the Fact that Scotland banned flights from India well before England. As for your new point, England had no restrictions on where people went once they landed from india. Obviously some headed to Scotland. If England had banned the flights at the same time as Scotland, then this current outbreak would almost certainly not have happened
