Something can be endemic yet still capable of being eradicated.  CV could be eradicated or shrunk to such a low level that it no longer qualifies as endemic.  Currently and technically it is both endemic and a pandemic.

 

Ebola virus is an endemic pathogen but it's rather important that it remains so.

I think places are being creative with outdoor spacing. Noticed at the top of Princes Mall they are putting up the bars for Monday. Really expensive but no bad atmosphere when a band is playing.  Also noticed the pub at  near Holy corner ( cant recall the name ) is squeezing loads of outdoor tables outside and they also have pods. Bit of a pretentious place for me . Ill give that a miss.

Aye i know . I am getting a tad excited about it actually. Its only when you start thinking about it its when you really acknowledge **** ive missed being in the pub., with good friends, music playing. drink flowing, and all the banter with everyone else and not knowing how the night might end up ( ( can be a bad thing  ) or good  

I didnt know that. Yes thats probably why they havent did this with covid. There probably would have been a mad stampede.

Covid hasn't become localised, it's still a problem across borders, so it's still a pandemic.

I think.the experts I referred to were saying the UK was no longer included in the countries and regions which are part of a Covid pandemic or epidemic but while still present the disease spread and rates ( for the time being at least) are predictable and at a low largely controllable level.

One such expert is Sarah Walker professor of medical statistics and epidemiology at Oxford and chief investigator on the Office of National Staistics Covid 19 infection survey. To quote her, Britain has "moved from a pandemic to an endemic situation".

As I said good news. Isn't it?

Yeah thats it.  Bit over expensive i think. I dont mind paying for a good drink and food but I looked at their menu outside today and it was over the top really.  Montpelliers is a great place esp during the rugby

From the sound of it partly at least aye, although not that it's likely to stay around of course. I see she's only saying that we're moving into a stage where it'll become endemic though, not that we're there yet. But it would be great for it to be brought under control if that's the best we can aim for.

Though having some people round for BBQ tomorrow so there is a variety of cheap largers in such as bud, Sam Miguel, peroni and corona. So might have a few fizzy lagers in the back garden, stick the fire pit on, some tunes and me and missus will chat some shit.

Never tried pornstar martini ale, but the best pornstar martini I've ever had was in the Hermitage of all places. They can't match The Canny Man's bloody Mary's for a liquid breakfast, though.

 

An evening around the firepit and a BBQ tomorrow sounds just great. Hopefully the weather holds 'till the second half of the week.

There is some talk in media this morning that further changes to the policy around AZ is to be made. The suggestion is under 40’s will not be given the AZ due to blood clot concerns.

I hate hangovers . I can now count how many I have had since lockdowns began as I’ve hardly been a house drinker. Had a few but not many at all . Hate them . Good for you getting up and about as I’m usually in my kip most of the day and very grumpy

Same here Taffin . I get quite depressed and similar existential fear too . Mainly mop about all day or lie in bed . Only good thing about covid has been lack of hangovers . I don’t drink a lot but when I do go out it’s for the night so next day ! Arghh

Following on from yesterday about the pub issue in Scotland i thought this was a good article ;

 

Does Nicola Sturgeon really care what happens to Scotland’s hotels, restaurants and pubs?

The treatment of hospitality on either side of the border is one of the worst aspects of the "be different from Boris" attitude of Sturgeon.

The stark contrast between the attitudes of the UK and Scottish governments in their treatment of the hospitality industry begs the obvious question: Does Nicola Sturgeon really care what happens to Scotland’s hotels, restaurants and pubs?

It arises when we compare the UK Communities Secretary Robert Jenrick’s plea to English local authorities to be lenient in the way they enforce social distancing rules in outdoor venues with the hard-line approach outlined on Thursday by Dr Gregor Smith, Scotland chief medical officer, and one of the First Minister’s principal advisors.

With pubs and restaurants in England permitted to serve drinks outdoors for nearly two weeks, Mr Jenrick urged councils not be ‘overzealous’ in ordering customers to stay one metre apart. But with Scottish pub gardens due to have the same relaxation in four days time Dr Smith insisted that the one-metre social distancing remained firmly part of the Scottish Government’s rules.

He defended the one metre rule because, he said, there was a "theoretical" risk of Covid, whether people were indoors or outdoors and added: "That’s why the guidance still says that even if you're outdoors, if you're not from the same households as others sitting at the same table there should be that distancing in place just to make sure it's as safe as possible."

And Dr Smith held out little hope for the immediate future, saying that the Scottish guidelines were ‘ a good way off’ changing.

By way of contrast and although the rules for the hospitality industry are roughly the same on both sides of the border, in a letter to English councils Mr Jenrick said the UK government’s priority was to allow businesses to open safely and to "avoid overzealous interpretation of the rules". 

He added that hard-line tactics, or what he called a "disproportionate regulatory approach" was in danger of driving people towards insecure and "possibly illegal activity".

The treatment of the relevant hospitality concerns on either side of the border is easily one of the worst aspects of the "always be different from Boris" attitude of Scotland’s First Minister. Throughout this pandemic she has sought to keep clear blue water between herself and the Prime Minister - whether it’s been on lockdowns, international travel or vaccine roll-outs. But it has been on the respective treatment of restaurants and pubs by both administrations which has been the most damaging to Scotland’s economy.

In an industry that is vital to this country’s well being - much more so than is the case in England - the treatment of hospitality venues by Sturgeon has seemed, at times, almost perverse. And contrary to some parts of popular opinion it’s not because she’s a total abstainer; as far as I’m aware she enjoys an occasional  ‘refreshment’.

Mr Jenrick’s words are spot on. Many people are already ignoring what they see as Scotland’s over-rigid approach to the lockdown, especially when they see the more relaxed approach being adopted in England. And any sign of a crackdown for minor breaches of the social distancing rules after Monday’s partial re-opening is bound to be counterproductive.

Moreover, given the confusing muddle that many restaurant and pub owners find themselves in over what they say are new government guidelines on indoor distancing, but which the First Minister insists is not new, there is a desperate need for a statement to clear the air for landlords as they prepare for Monday.

They have bent over backwards to comply with every dot and comma of her restrictions and local authorities should be told that their job is to support their local businesses - not harass them.

It is Nicola Sturgeon’s responsibility to issue that order. It’s way past time Scotland’s hospitality industry was given a fighting chance of survival.
