Always liked Ryan, as a player, the sort you'd want in the trenches with you when things got tough, calls a spade , a spade.

Wasn't blessed with the greatest ability but made up for it in attitude. Could have done with his spirit at Fir Park.

A good honest pro!

We are living in strange times indeed, can't ever recall a Sun story being this close to the truth before. Afterall heart attacks and footballers , yeah happens everyday.

I think you got that the wrong way round his ability was fine but he even admits his attitude was wrong.

Footballers have been collapsing with heart problems well before coronavirus vaccinations.

Latest scare from the Daily Mail

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10242493/Is-Botswana-variant-sudden-Covid-surge-South-Africa.html

Super-mutant 'vaccine resistant' Botswana Covid variant is driving South African surge and is nearing dominance just WEEKS after first being detected - sparking calls for a new travel ban on region to prevent outbreak here

South Africa's infection rate is growing exponentially after Botswana Covid variant was spotted in the country

Scientists warn it has spread to most of South Africa's provinces and is set to become dominant 'very quickly'

They fear the strain is highly transmissible and can infect vaccinated people more easily than the Delta variant

Yes I know happened every week, I mean everyday! Nothing new here. It won't be long til we'll be able to do an in play bet on the next one to go down, I'm surprised it's never been on bet builder afterall it's as common as a sending off!

For the nutters trying to make a connection between footballers collapsing and the vaccine, a man collapses on the football pitch every 4 days, it's been happening for years.

Here's a link to a discussion 9 years ago.

Why are so many football players dying or collapsing from heart attacks...? - The Student Room

It is almost like they had a reason for putting  defibrillators in every sports club/ground.

You don't even know if any of those players are vaccinated.

Erikson wasn't vaccinated.

99% of Liverpool players and staff are vaccinated, none of them are collapsing.

I didn't think I would say this, but it's for folk like you that I wouldn't mind Sturgeon tightening covid passports.

🤣😂😂🤣😂😂 Botswana Covid variant brilliant. This is turning into a right carry on.

Just as an addition to this story you are aware that the German Man of the People, you know the guy that's credited with the agenda the government's have signed up to, Herr Schwab used to hold a position on the board at the Daily Mail?🤔

Now if I was a cynic and/ or a conspiracy theorist I'd begin to wonder about these dots as they seem to be drawing a clearer picture but like Nucky above I'll just keep lifting the carpet and sweeping away.

How long before some anti-vaxxer freak has a health episode and then blames it on the vaccine they haven't had?

How do we know a collapse wasn't a result of contracting Covid which we know can cause long term organ damage?

Similarly when people talk about the long term impacts of the vaccine; where's the balance against the long term impacts of catching covid?

Funny how the vaccine sceptics never think in those terms isn't it?

Seen a few folk being certain it was covid or it was the vaccine or it’s always been happening. Being open minded individual cases will vary, can’t rule anything out but also can’t be sure of the cause.

A notable UK milestone today with the number of confirmed cases now exceeding 10m.   That is a fair chunk of acquired immunity.

Not really that significant at all in terms of acquired immunity.  Those are over about 20 or 21 months.  A lot of that immunity has substantially waned over time.  It also pales into low significance when compared to the acquired immunity via vaccinations,  both in scale and on the timeline.

There's still very limited knowledge regarding how well T and B cell immune memory is performing and likely to persist.  There might be some benefit there,  but also in those vaccinations.

Agree. It's the certainty of the vaccine sceptics and their pseudo science BS that grinds my gears though.

75% (7.5m) of those recorded infections have been in 2021, so the waning effect of acquired immunity may not be as big as you suggest.

Still a lot,  but much more importantly,  the scale of vaccination means that most of those have been superseded by more recent vaccinations or are infections despite vaccinations.  There can't be that much current acquired immunity in existence that isn't due to vaccinations.  But it all helps.

The matter of immunity memory in specialist cells is probably more important.  The immune system remembers the infections it has bern primed to recognise and produces antibodies when it encounters a remembered infection.  This is a separate level of protection to current antibody levels.

Cheers, really small numbers so I guess it's susceptible to spikes.

That said, 45 doesn't seem madly out of kilter with 47 year to 5th July.

No it isn't.

A week of high or low deaths could completely change the look of those statistics so with such small figures it's difficult to interpret anything significant from them other than to note that at this point unlike total deaths and the other age categories which have shown a significant decrease in deaths in the second half of this year compared to the first half of it and the whole of last year the under 45 category hasn't and it is the only one that currently is trending upwards in comparison.

Although being a small number they aren't too much lower than the sample sizes used by some of these effectiveness trials done by the CDC. The last one I read used a study of 179 covid positive case patients aged between 12-18 and compared the hospatilisation results of the 173 unvaccinated case patients with the 6 vaccinated case patients to conclude that the pfizer vaccine was 93% effective amongst 12-18 year olds.

Maybe the western countries will move away from trying to pressure and force young fit people to get the vaccine in their own countries and shift focus to those countries where the old and vulnerable would benefit far more from it.

The dismiss everything by default ideology would be amusing if it wasn't so tragic.  I'm sure we can all agree that everyone's hope is that this is a false alarm.

"More data needed" on the back of very limited data is a red flag.  But "precautionary" allows some hope that lessons are finally being learned.

Due to get my booster on Sunday but was thinking of giving the flu jab a miss as I know a few folk who have been floored for a few days when getting double jabbed whereas nothing of note for the ones who only took the booster.

Would be interested to hear of any feedback for those who took both covid and flu jabs on the same day?

Booster (Pfiser) and Flu on Monday....other than a (very) mild flu-ey feeling for a few hours and sore arms for a day or so, I was fine...1st vaccine jab (AZ) floored me for 3 days.

BBC reporter suggested that there's a very high level of concern in government.  But it's only about 2 days ago that this was identified so the only possible bit of data they can be looking at is it's rate of spread.  Transmissibility.

There may also be scientific community concern about the scale and nature of mutations in this having a real effect on the efficacy against acute illness.  But that can't be observed for a few weeks at least.  Even then,  there's going to have to be a comparative study of outcomes in unvaccinated and vaccinated of different vaccines.  It'll take until into next year before much is known there.

If there's not much effect on the protection from acute illness then it's not really that bad.  That's by a long way the most crucial thing.  But the suspected transmissibility could mean restrictions.

Buckle up.

The CV passports will be needed to keep infections down.

Might even have to make vaccination mandatory.

It’s gonna be a long winter that’s for sure, don’t think mandatory vaccine will happen though, not ruling it out but as other have mentioned we have a high % uptake compared to most places.

I’m interested in our plan to tackle patient to patient spread in hospitals for this upcoming winter. There might already be a plan of action but I’ve no seen anything yet.

Quelle surprise !  I never saw that coming at all ! Still practically impossible to forcefully vaccinate people as well . Besides even if vaccinated you can still transit it and Croak it .

It's certainly the right time of year to "discover" a new variant.

No evidence it will evade the vaccines, a handful of cases in South Africa and no evidence it will even be a dominant strain.

Yet people are talking about restrictions already.

People are fed up with Covid now and hearing about cases, variants etc. Time to just get out, live our lives and, for those who choose to, take our chances. It certainly wouldn't be possible imo to again impose restrictions, regardless of the "threat" from new variants.

I agree to an to extent in regards to it’s certainly time a new variant will appear, granted discover wouldn’t be my choice of my words, “ discover” would be more plausible in the summer.

I also can’t deny precautions are needed but whatever decisions are made must be backed by evidence. I 100% agree with the rest of your post.
