So the government is now increasing the alert level to level 4 which means transmission is "high or rising exponentially". The scientists are predicting a potential 50,000 new cases a day by mid October without further action.

Think about the pressure on the NHS of that before whining about mental health and cancelled surgeries. This is a war against an invisible enemy that isn't going to be won anytime soon.

that 50000 per day scenario was delivered in the knowledge that most of the population have very little understanding of maths

he did specifically say it wasn’t a prediction tho (probably to cover himself with those that do)

seems to have worked

Pubs and restaurants are not the problem. Only 2 households can mix, you have to wear a mask on the floor and it's table service. The existing rules, if obeyed and enforced, are perfectly safe. That's my experience from the ones I go to. If some places are not observing that we need to ramp up enforcement.  The problem is crowds of youngsters mingling in house parties, beaches and raves. If everyone else is observing the rules and being careful then eventually cases will drop imo.

:spoton:

The young Scaffolder on my site bragging about 20 of his mates hiring cabins every weekend. And then walking about as if it's nothing when the ground worker gaffer showed him a facepalm. The 20 somethings(They really are a bit Dolly, these days) should be locked up for 2 weeks. Sorted!

Other news... America and China are the only 2 twits not to agree to share a proven vaccine world wide.

Oh, a wee message for The PM.

Shut the Borders for 2 weeks, no one in, no one out.

AND A MESSAGE FOR THE FM.

Shut the gyms, pubs, restaurants etc... for a one week, and bring the October break for schools forward to the start of October, this will save you shutting the schools for any longer than needed if full lock down comes.

Hopefully the Oxford vaccine proves to be the first proven effective and safe vaccine. Make it available to everybody but the US and China. Not to be spiteful. Simply to keep them happy in their "America first" mentality. Don't want to be upsetting them with a "nasty" foreign vaccine.

Though make it available to me.

You can have mine 👍. I'll wait til it's not burned everyones eyes out first.

No, I'm not anti vaccine person, just not for putting any concoction in me after under one year's hurried experimentation, bud.

Yeah there's a vast difference between being skeptical of a rushed covid vaccine and being a full on anti-vax nutjob. Personally I would take it if it meant getting back to normal quicker but can definitely understand why some would be hesitant.

Curfew in England of 10pm for pubs, bars etc. I would expect we will similar announced in Scotland today,

Cant imagine it will be all that effective. The same issues surely occur just in a reduced timescales, whilst at the same time making even more hospitality venues economically less viable.

Old Sunday pub times would help.

On a wee side, when are Scots gonnae stop using drink to get absolutely blootered, time we got a grib and learned to socialise with a bit of intelligence. We're killing ourselves.

Italy rolling along quite well now. Even with 2k cases a day, cruise ships are again leaving ports,  1k fans will be allowed into Serie A games this month, they are utilising 90 min tests at schools and airports and lockdown is over. Compulsory mask wearing after 6pm outdoors is generally observed and, more importantly,  enforced.

Perhaps the way the virus hit them initially has led to their population understanding what they need to do to stay safe.

I think the worst that happen will be that pubs have to close at 10pm. Closing restaurants and pubs that are, in the main, perfectly safe, disciplined and well policed, having spent a lot of time, money and effort making themselves so.....would be an act of lunacy and economic destruction.

100% agree.

Conversely the venues that aren't well policed and disciplined should be shut down. Permanently.

I adapted and got through lockdown well with a kettlebell and a sandbag but since reopening and having to book the gym slots I've found a consistency I'd never had before. I'll be gutted if they shut gyms.

The biggest risk on a golf course to your health is a ball hitting you  or your blood pressure if; your having a bad day,

Gove say govt not encouraging people to go back to work now. I feel dizzy with all these about turns

The golf course is my happy place. My mental health would be in tatters if it was shut again.

The advice has been contradictory from the get go. Its almost like they're busking it.

And get your flu jab, folks, if your eligible. Flu and Covid, Feck that.

I got a flu jab last October/November but didn't stop me getting one of the worst viruses I can remember in February.

My company usually does Flu Jabs on site but obviously very few people are in the office so don't know if they will give us vouchers to book something at a chemist.

Govt would be tugging themselves silly reading this post and realising the plan to scapegoat young people is working a treat. The idea that everyone is observing all the rules perfectly except those pesky yoofs

Sturgeon really needs to stop listening to her advisors and scientists and following the lead of almost every country in the world, and do what some folk on the internet say.

Almost as embarrassing as flying a spitfire over the cities to say cheers. Britain is full of ****wits. Brainwashed ****ing headcases.

The spitfire was pretty cool tbf.

I've never seen one in flight with my own eyes so it was good to get the chance.

It was a perfect morning for it too.

They are cool and I’d had a few last night😋

The sentiment behind it however is a load of nonsense.

Yeah, Hitler was well known for his empathetic, protective attitude towards the frail, vulnerable and handicapped.

Prudent to see how it goes in Germany first. They've just allowed fans back in at around a 5th capacity.

Inevitably. This will kill Scottish football unless there is a major financial package. Which of course there won't be.

You got to think that pubs empty at 10 will lead to more folk going back to others houses at the weekends.I seen a landlord on the TV at the weekend saying all it will do is have more folk trying to get in earlier.I just see this move as more folk going to houses when pubs shut as I think you are actually more inclined to go to a house when you are in a merry state than a total pissed state imo.

In the East Lothian Courier that data is showing East Lothian is due to get further restrictions.I can see the Westminster one coming in but then more measures for Easy Lothian then the following week the Borders if things are not starting to improve as they are the next region after East Lothian that cases are rising most

I agree with you though, it doesn't seem like a measure that will have much success.

Not at all I don't know what they do but I don't see why shutting them a hour or so earlier is doing anything other than creating a headline.

Germany seem to be well below a spike going by yesterday's graph. Whereas the UK, looks like a shuttle take-off.

Think we need to concentrate on our own shit on this one. The OF (mostly Celtic)will be most unhappy.

True. But it does mean that if they do suddenly have a spike now that allowing fans back in was a likely culprit.
