Where is the prime minister?

Planning to ease lockdown further in England from next Thursday. Garden parties, outside markets and National trust all opening.

Meanwhile we 'might' be able to drive a few miles to play golf :vangry:

This Cummings guy will probably leave his roll today but in a few months pop back up in another job, guy looks like he’s at retirement age and ain’t going to be short of a few pound so probably best for all he just walks today

As I said will be in another job later in the year

Edit..... just googled him and he’s only 48😱

I think he needs to reclaim his leadership right now to be honest, either by sacking Cummings or at least appearing at the briefing.

There was an American Oxbridge professor on BBC News within the last week or so (can't recall his name but he's been on a few times) who said "don't get your hopes up on finding a vaccine" - he said the likelihood was less than 50% due to the fact it's very difficult to produce a vaccine to fight a virus (or words to that effect).

The footage of him leaving his home this morning was quite a contrast from yesterday. His cockiness was gone. Think he might be too.

Well, not quite .... but I get what you mean.    Despite being unelected and a complete oddball, he apparently is wielding a ridiculously large amount of influence at No. 10.    Which is probably down to Boris simply not being up to the job, and needing someone to do all the thinking and planning. Cummings is shrewd enough to see that he's on to a good thing there.    Boris needs him too much & probably won't sack him, despite a fair few other senior conservative MPs (even Brexiteers) having quite a dislike of the guy.

Considering the way he dresses to go to work at the heart of the UK government,  he's clearly non-conformist and will not  see himself as being part of the establishment.   It's a clever trick, being able to become indispensible and earn a fortune while hiding from any responsibility for anything.   😠

You’ll be aware that Scotland was further behind England in the wave thats just subsiding now.

hence why we are a wee bit further behind England. Keep in mind that Boris’s paymasters are running the show down there and are just opening up earlier to help line their pockets.

so their doing everything a bit earlier , meantime we are taking the slow and steady route.

I don't know if it is the same  Oxford proffessor  Adrian Hill (co leader of the vaccine project) who  is quoted today saying the upcoming trial of the vaccine in the UK  has a 50% chance of producing no result because the virus is disappearing so quicky. Pesky old virus!

He also argues for prioritising its use in countries where the virus is still spreading and so where it is most needed (and presumably where a test is more likely in due course  to produce a result)

What is that Y-axis scale supposed to represent ?  The probability of dying ?  If so, even when you're  nearly 90 years old, there's only a 10% chance of dying ?    Seems awfy low ...

A study in Denmark showed average life expectancy of a 90 year old is 4 to 5 years. So for a 90 year old 10%  chance of dying within one year seems reasonable.

Not really. 1 in 10 seems fairly high risk to me. Less than 1% at age 60 or less, seems low.

60 new positive cases and 6 new deaths in Scotland. They always try and put a dampener on it by saying it's only low because it's the weekend.

Are we not allowed to have any good news anymore?

Before someone points out, I know it's not good news for the families of the deceased but encouraging signs that it's going in the right direction

Ahh right....  Didn't realise that.  Thanks for that (and to others above who have mentioned it too).

A bit stark to see that infant mortality (incl stillbirth) risk is the same as the risk of dying at 55    😵

But it is low because it is a Sunday - the pattern is there to see... Tomorrow will be low too

They're not trying to put a dampener on it, it's literally the case that reported cases and deaths are lower at the weekend. Won't get a true accurate number until Tuesday. Been that way since the start. But it is finally heading in the right direction.

Nothing at all.

All he will do is create a new Ltd company or become an employee of one of his mates company's and then the company contracts to the Tory Party to deliver strategic advice.  The company simply says it will use a lead consultant to deliver the services required and lo and behold guess who the lead consultant will be, bingo Dominic Cummings.

 It is probably that simple.

Newly born have always been at relatively high risk of death. The risks to both the very young and very old have reduced dramatically in the last century or so.

The  graph does illustrate that the perception of risk from Coronavirus has been out of line with reality. The virus has virtually disappeared in London but people still pass others in the street with terror.

Indeed, but thankfully there's  a low chance (0.4-0.8%) of stillbirth,  or of dying at 55.

It's the same probability/chance of road fatality, during one adults lifetime.

We're locking down an entire country, with the obvious aim of saving lives, on these small probability margins,  yet failing to protect high risk groups.
