If it was based on on the pitch performance then 100% Smith.

You have to consider off the pitch as well. Who is the big character? Who is the leader of the gang?

Craig Levein  :(

Halkett for me - Captained Livi well

Smith may have burnt a few bridges with outbursts in social media

Have I missed something?

He questioned the commitment of teammates - rightly so

The players can't be looking to the stand for their captain. You can guarantee Naismith will be injured again before the end of the season.

Michael Smith for me. He's the one as a fan that I've been looking to in these dark times and he's delivered.

Deserves it.

I think it’s interesting that for an underperforming team we have at least 4 serious candidates to be captain.
I’ll take that as a positive.

Has to be Naismith, can see the clamour for Smith but Naismith for me with Soutter as Vice-Captain.

Do we really need a captain who is going to spend much of his time on physios table.

If the armband adds £s to a fee, then Souttar.

Personally, I'd favour Smith.  Naismith doesn't need the armband to do what he does.  A bit early for Halkett, imo.

Smith stands out like a sore thumb for effort, leadership, professionalism and desire. Clear choice for captain.

Naismith for me. None of the other three can feel aggrieved it wasn’t them if Naismith is made captain. He’s the obvious choice and he has the most experience playing at a high level.

Smith for me, but if there's nae Smith available, then Naismith can be captain.

Don't really think it matters too much who is captain to be honest.

Stendel seems very good at the psychological side of things and , I'm sure , he'll appoint the right person .

I have my own views on CL's time as manager (in other words not getting drawn into debates with irrational radges) but we desperately needed the mindset changed . Think DS is doing this in spades .

Imo much more important than new signings . As is , of course , half the team returning from injury

Halkett or Souttar for me, Smith and Naismith play and act like captains and give 100% anyway, Halkett and Souttar improve when given the armband!

Naismith with Smith as vice captain.

So when there’s nai Naismith it’ll just be Smith

Where's that groan smiley when you need it.

If Naismith could avoid injury absolutely, we need a captain who is reliable, think that rules him out.

Smith deserves the armband, Mr consistent.

I'd give it to the most committed professional who takes the club seriously and gives 100% during the week as well as on match day.

I'm struggling.

How do they choose?

Does the squad vote on it or is it just DS's choice?

You would like to think the squad would have an input as to who they respect and would like to be barking orders at them during a game.

I reckon DS will be making that call with no help from anyone. 😏

Michael Smith ticks those boxes imo.

Surprised how many are saying Naismith.

What part of Smith fails that test in any way?

Smith will be committed regardless.

Souttar and Halkett are both still young so won't expect it.

Giving it to Naismith would be a shrewd choice. Not only does he have the leadership qualities but it should make him feel the responsibility of giving his all for the club, 100% 24/7.

When his head has hit the floor in half a dozen games we've played this season. He's chucked in the towel on occasions the same as everyone else.

I think people tend to have differing ideas about what a Captain should be.

I want a guy that ploughs on regardless, doesn't have to be the most gifted or even the most vocal these days, a player that never downs tools will command and deserve the respect of the team.

We ain't got anyone like that currently  😭😭

Got to be Naismith, absolutely no question about. 100% a leader...... when he’s fit 😬

He's a leader with or without the armband. Perhaps give it to Halkett and you'll have at least 3 leaders on the park. Smith & Naisy and the official captain.

Whichever one of the 4 that has shown up in training that they have understood what is being asked of them, the team and every individual player and if on pitch not going to plan can have that respectful 2 way conversation with the manager.

Correct decision

Lets hope he plays more than ten games a season then and he’s doing full training every day and leading like club captain.
