You think Budge who wouldn't know a free kick from a touchdown said "I think we really need to find someone who will introduce a high pressing game". What's been done is done and we can't change that now. I won't be singing her praises until that tide does change but she has now, finally, taken the steps to try and make that happen so there's really no point in moaning anymore and we should support Stendel, the team and the club to try and get to where we need to be. If it doesn't work, then sure, we need to go back to questioning the leadership but for the time being, frankly, there is not a lot to be gained from doing so. I agree with most of the above, but if anyone wants to criticize the appointment they should do it now, with their reasons, rather than with the benefit of hindsight. Ann Budge doesn't have that luxury. I'm guessing, but it seems like at least 95% of Hearts supporters agree with her choice of manager. Whilst I agree Ann doesn't have the luxury of hindsight, the fans aren't the ones in a position to do due diligence on him or interview him so have to take the leap of faith blind. I was fully in support of Cathro but it should have been apparent to anyone interviewing him that he was going to be a disaster. Should we all have just continued to support him given we were for it at the time? Ann and Stendel have my faith currently but it's not, and never will be blind faith. Let's hope it's a success and try our best to support that process rather than worrying about what people may/may not say in the future about the appointment. Now is a time for unity, not disharmony. SectionDJambo
One of the safest things anyone can do is introduce and maintain the suggestion that any manager should get sacked. Other than past examples like Alex Ferguson and Arsenal Wenger, they are nearly all going to be sacked within a few years anyway, so it’s an easy way of sounding like they knew all along it should happen, and everyone else were “happy clappers”. As we filtered out, one of the suits asked her what thought. She was literally tight lipped and shook her head. I was left thinking CL will be gone soon. We then won a cup semi and made a good fist of the final. (And remember the start to last season was so good). So I fo think she changed her mind. I think she is loyal to a fault. The new man will know this. She takes her time over every decision: salvaging the wreckage of a half dead football club, building, then delaying the opening of, the stand (without public blame for whoever's messed up the seat order) and then dispensing with, but not humiliating, a man she relied on from the moment she arrived. Football clubs are generally run in a way where strategy counts for nothing, as the manager and his team are only ever 3 losses away from the sack... Look at the way Barnsley got rid of Stendel for instance...a bad run off results following promotion and no subsequent investment, and the manager gets accused of courting other clubs and they bring in a new manager, who has made no difference at all... Loyalty from a board is a rare thing, and whilst it may infuriate the "hang 'im, sack 'im" brigade of knee-jerk panty-wetters it is no way to run a business... It is unfathomable how successful businesspeople allow all the rules of good business sense to go out the window when they come to run a football club...
