I make fun of you a lot, and for that I apologise...if you can tell me about a band called Iron Virgin.

Was talking to my wife the other day about glam rock and she's brought up these lads (specifically a song called Rebels Rule). Checked out their wiki and it seems they're from Embra toon. Any info/stories/distaste?

Cheers auld lads. x

It would appear they are not that well known. :cornette:

Morgan is the man for that type of stuff.

Sure he will pop up in due course. :greggy:

Evening.

Two points to make on this thread:

1. True story - I used to know a girl who was known as 'Steel pants Elaine'.  She achieved this nickname by virtue of the fact that it would have been easier to get into the White House and the Bank of England at the same time. She was therefore the original Iron Virgin.

2. My wife's big sister recalls this band and seems to think they came from Portobello.  That, unfortunately is all the light she can shed on this subject.

There was a lass at Boroughmuir who put up to a guy for two packets of gammon crisps🙀

On the subject of the thread, I have absolutely no idea who they are, never heard of them.

Picture on this web page!!  Not that I am "old boy" just a good archive site for Edinburgh gigs so can't tell you much about them but this page may hold some further information

That's a great site - and some picture of Iron Virgin !

They could have been the inspiration for Spinal Tap.

I remember them, but was more into going to see Ignatz and Brodie at the time. Gordon Dougal (keyboards) of Ignatz now tours Europe, with Maggie Reilly.

Bilbo Baggins, from Lord of the Rings, would turn in his grave to see this lot abusing his name!

I'll be sure to pass this on to fatso.

Your sister-in-law will soon be achieving cult status on here due to your descriptions.

I recall Maybury roundabout being mentioned in the past.  Time for pictures, I think.

I've got the Iron Virgin single Rebels Rule up the loft somewhere, was brought up in Fountainbridge when the Tollcross Rebels were in their Hay Day.

Cheers for the info, chaps. Found it incredibly strange there's a (kind of) famous band from Edinburgh that no-one has ever mentioned.

I promise no to laugh next time your false teeth fall out.

You trying to deceive us Morgan, that’s Janet on the Sydney Harbour Bridge granite pylon. I’ve checked and it’s in proportion.
