Same could be said for this miss. Almost impossible not to score

That's another beauty. There should be a hall of fame for that kind of thing. It takes a special kind of sklaff to miss these.

That certainly crossed my mind.

There was a rangers (the original club, not the new one pretending to be them) player, van something or other. Another one of the ones who cheated with wages and side letters. But he had an absolutely classic miss.

Can't search for it as my addled mind only remembers the Van part of his name.

Ring any bells?

Thank you. That's the one.

What was that about Laudrup and Albertz being active and passive in the commentary!!!

Van Vossen was a shell of a man at rangers. He couldn't hack the culture over here with the banter/bullying that went on in the rangers dressing room, and his confidence was rock bottom. Richard Gough said so in his interview with Si Ferry on open goal.

He was actually a very good player and played for Holland after he left Ibrox

What's the greatest miss by a Hearts player? Any nominations? :)

Eamonn Bannon v St Pats, I think. I STILL can’t believe he missed it

I seem to remember Jean Louis Valois missing from about 2 yards out against Motherwell.

Easy, ask anyone who's ever shanked a golf ball. And a golf ball isn't even moving.

Sounds like you're talking from painful experience there. The only consolation I can offer you is that the green is usually a long way off, and the hole is naewhere near the size of a fitba goal. And you get another shot !

About 55 years ago I managed to hit a golf ball backwards through my legs at Silverknowes and hit the cab of a lorry, I think it was the ninth or tenth where the road passes behind the tee down towards Cramond beach. I eventually got down to single figures but could still have episodes of shanking the ball.

Oh man that's  a beautiful story. I don't play golf myself.spent my younger years climbing and stravaiging around the hills and camping in the glens. Nowadays I still walk my beautiful hills but the climbing bit can be a bit too sair.

You still get another shot at your golf, and long may you hit, and aye, shank yer balls. Today, I had a fairly short day on an ice and snow covered peak, I can still do it. So can you. And so can the guy who sklaffed the baw o'er the bar.

'Mon The Hearts. !!!

Not sure if the greatest miss ever.

But did Hans Eskilsson not miss a sitter at easter road, then blamed the crowd for putting him off.

If it's the one I'm thinking of it almost hit the right hand corner flag from in front of the goal.

Agree. Remembered the chance being way easier than that even though he still made a complete hash if it.

Would have been the best assist of Robbo's career as well.

Geoff Thomas for England vs France.  Wasn't a short-range sitter as such, just a woeful one-on-one attempt.

GK for France that day?

Gilles Rousset.
