Don’t see anything about Ross that would put him ahead of other candidates. MacPhee has some well noted experience. I wouldn’t just get rid of MacPhee because he was a part of Levein’s set up.

Yeah, remembered Öztürk and McLaughlin. Did he not sign the wee striker that we paid a fee for from Queen of the South too? Forget his name just now.

Robbie Muirhead? He went to MK Dons with Neilson. Currently at Bristol Rovers I believe

The Old Tolbooth

Ross used to be part of Levein's team, I'm afraid I'd see this as a very easy "jobs for the boys" type appointment if it were to happen, especially when we've got much higher profile candidates interested, and whilst I appreciate that it comes down to finances, Budge herself did state that money would be no issue, which was perhaps a daft statement to make because some fans will now expect Klopp! :D

Robbie Muirhead is at Morton, the wee striker being referred to is Gavin Reilly, he was at Sunderland for a spell after Ross took him from StMirren

Was thinking of Gavin Reilly, it seems. Move never happened:

Macphee as SD possibly but want a new team in there to see what they can achieve with a squad that should be doing much much better

Yip. New manager and coaching staff,  let MacPhee do what he is good at, office and planning

If Jack Ross is the peoples choice then I'm baffled.

MacPhee has shown more exciting football in the space of a week than Ross has at his entire time with Sunderland.

We will be straight back to defending 1 nil leads from the 5th minute with Ross in charge.

SkySports news reporting  in a roundabout way

If that's the case neither club showing any ambition.

Hearts rehiring a former employee who has failed in English lower league with a huge budget by that league's standards.

Hibs just continuing their policy of hiring their parent club's cast offs.

Nelly Terraces is spot on this time imo.

If, and that's a big if, it is Ross, then people can spin it either way to suit their preconceptions.

If it's him, he has my support. Same with Austin if he gets the gig.

Give the man, whoever it is, that gets the job our full support and let's ask for exciting football, winning matches, and shoving it right up that failed chippie owner by getting into Europe.

Ach Brendan Rodgers said, his St Mirren team were the best they had played all season. Horsed 4-1 right enough, but still better than all of the other SPL teams.

Hard to say what would happen here, if him and MacPhee agreed on a style, they may well make a progressive team.

The 2 people are going to have to work well with one another, whilst being affordable, this is no easy task, unless you know the people of course.

I’m not sure about Ross - he did do well at St Mirren but it was ridiculous for Sunderland to appoint him: far too big a club too early.

If he is ambitious and clever he will have learned from his Sunderland experience. I certainly would not write him off.  He did very well at St Mirren. It certainly seemed like there was a decline in the level of first team coaching after Ross left. Let’s wait and see though.

Exactly. If you read through some of the articles since he was fired at Sunderland the main conclusion is that he comes from the boring football camp - get a goal ahead then sit in to hold on to the lead. Parkinson has already thrown that style out at Sunderland and is trying to get them playing attacking football at a high tempo press. Bit like us last Saturday?

Jack Ross!? Jeezo, we really are struggling for someone decent if he gets the gig! Sunderland played a slow side-to-side passing game and became draw specialists. Came through Levein's football "philosophy" so it'd be more of the same. Club has no ambition if this happens.

With some of the names being bandied about and the market we appear to be shopping in, Stephen Robinson is the stand out candidate. We want a clean break from the Riccarton Mafia and have a fresh set of eyes take over. AM's strengths appear to be watching the opposition, organising innovative training sessions and formulating free kick routines, none of which falls under the remit of a Sporting Director. He has also been heavily invokved in 3 years of mediicrity at Tynecastle and I would rather that he was moved on.

Agree 100 percent. Sunderland  biggest budget in the third tier and failed to get promoted whilst playing Leveinesque football. I would even prefer Robinson and I'm not a fan of his.

Well, she did say that if she got it down to a final few she MAY ask Craig Levein on his thoughts if she wanted to. Thing that worries me about that is he likes a certain type of manager and if he doesn't like one or two of the names then Ann will score them off. So yes, there would still be too much influence coming from him. If she really needs to ask opinions of others (and I understand why she would) then maybe she should get on the phone to Jim Jeffries and get him in on an advisory capacity. He knows the type of football and players fans like. Surprises me that Levein can't see this considering he's played under the likes of attack-minded Alex McDonald who was once asked "why is it that you had such a brilliant record against Hibs?" "Easy" he said, "we just didnae like them") and Jim Jeffries (briefly before Levein had to retire through injury) who famously said that "If a team scores 2, we'll score 3" Both attacking type managers. It sort of went wrong after Joe Jordan came in, the 1-0 bore specialist, a year with Sandy Clark then a year with Tommy McLean before Jeffries first-time round appointment. Levein did quite well once Jeffries was sacked in 2000 and signed some pretty decent players. The likes of Stamp, De Vries, Fuller, Hartley, McKenna, Kisnorbo and others and we finished third more often than not. Just can't work out what's gone wrong with him. He's still hanging about so until he goes completely we're stuck with his old coaching team (including Jack Ross if he comes in) and that's no good for anyone.

Not sure if he "sacked" him. Was there not rumours/allegations of impropriety that had a striking resemblance to another head coach who left and then returned?

That’s what I thought. Although if that is the case, then I doubt they are bosom buddies since.

I take a passing interest in Sunderland and a lot of their fans complained about the style of play Ross employed. There were huge similarities between their complaints about Ross and the way Sunderland played under him and our complaints about the way Levein had us playing. Very, very similar styles with similar outcomes. Ross would be a safe choice for Levein as they seem to share the same philosophy on how the game should be played. Why after outlining her criteria for a new Head Coach, adding a new more attacking style of play to that criteria would she then decide on Jack Ross ?

Could be a really dangerous appointment if so. We need someone to get the fans back through the door and instill optimism.

Ross would be a kick in the baws.

I don't want him either tbh. I'm just not sure I would see it as a Levein influenced signing.

Jack Ross, Austin MacPhee and Craig Levein all at the club at the same time, effectively just stepping up from their previous roles into the one above............. all sounds a bit familiar to me and not exactly a change in direction.

I just don't see it happening nor do I think the fans would be that happy!

Got a feeling this could well be a real 'left-field' appointment. Maybe Dutch, Belgian, Danish......whatever? It's only a gut feel, but potential Scots managers are small fish in a small goldfish bowl. The most plausable suggestion of the lot - Robinson - fails to get me excited.
