It will be really difficult for fans to form an opinion re the right person for the Sporting Director role

We won't have much to go on

If the person has charge of recruitment and the academy it will be a vital role and in todays game recruitment is so so important

He'll also be involved in contracts and again that in todays game is important

The relationship between the Sporting Director, the Chief Executive and the Manager will determine our near future as a club

If, and it's a very big if, McClair was appointed, might the manager be someone from his Man U contacts? Hughes is the obvious one, though what about Scholes or Butt, for example?

(and despite being well into his forties, I'm sure Scholes would still be the best player in the Scottish league too, should he feel the need to put the boots on one last time!)

We dont want any sellick player from the 86 team at Tynie. Not now not ever.

Its ST Mirren that’s the problem at that time, not Celtic.

I don't really see the point in discussing potential candidates when we have no say whatsoever.

Is it just me?

Following your logic we shouldn’t discuss anything.

You come across as a strange laddie.

Must admit - getting fairly excited about some of the potential SD/manager combos.

Waiting for the let down....

McClair could work with/persuade generally any decent English and some European managers who might not be sure about coming to a Scotland, as McClair would bring a European wide integrity and credibility to the club.

I would ask though if all that was possible why has someone else not snapped this talent up

Stoke punters describing Nathan Jones as ‘an absolute fraud’ and ‘worst manager in their lifetime’. Admittedly punters on an online forum so as reliable as likes of us on this.

Casey Jones...one for the oldies

I'd take him over Rob Jones any day. Even if he is always steaming.

I get your point but sometimes things just happen and click at the right time.

So we don't fancy a manager with old firm connections as he wouldn't be of the mind-set that they duopoly can be broken.

Why would a sporting director with old firm connections be any different ?

Not for me.

Tend to agree. Of all the names mentioned the Wotte / Stendel partnership sounds like a dream.

No fear.

The OF connection is a bit simple IMO. It depends on the individual. McDonald and Jardine played with Rangers all their career but were winners and came here and were never scared of the OF.
McClair played most of his career with Man U so would have no qualms about him getting the job.

People that would snub Brian McClair because of his Celtic connections really need to get a grip of themselves ffs.

Imagine not wanting what's best for your club because a certain high profile candidate played for Celtic.

Ferguson speaks very highly of McLair and on that basis alone he’s got to be worth serious consideration.

He also spoke very highly of Moyes ...

Negative.

Is the OP well connected?

You’d have to look through his previous for confirmation or otherwise.

Any update on whether this is possible or likely and if things have progressed?

Swear I watched that for years during summer school holidays.

Just Googled it. One year series, 32 episodes.

Weird.

McClair Sbragia Levein.

Would not surprise me at all,  if he feels like he needs a job.

What's Levein's role in that set up?

Not a role, linking them together, mutual acquaintances.

MacPhee has the SD role I believe. Evening News today, is a man speaking of what he wants to do in my view

No further updates I’m afraid. It was a name mentioned on Saturday night. Time will tell I suppose.

His OF connection would be a red flag for me. A bit knee jerk I know but Scotland is such a parochial little cesspit when it comes to football.
