Weakened Offender

To date, Hearts have successfully avoided losing 4 matches in one season to a club in administration, whose team consisted of 3 players and about 15 bairns.

1895/96

Hearts 3 Hibs 1, Scottish Cup final.

1896/97

Hearts 1 Hibs 0. Stopped Hibs winning the title which we then went on to clinch.

1900/01

Hibs 1 Hearts 2. Scottish Cup semi final replay at ER (after a 1-1 at Tynecastle) on the way to winning the trophy.

2005/06

Hearts 4 Hibs 0. Scottish Cup semi final at Hampden on the way to winning the trophy.

2011/12

Hearts 5 Hibs 1. Scottish Cup final at Hampden.

2014/15

Hearts 91 points Hibs 70 in the Championship. The fourth time in history that Hearts/Hibs have been winners/runners up. We've never been second best to them.

To be fair to Hibs (even saying that sticks in my throat) they have done some thing that we’ve never done....

Hibs have won the Second Division Championship.

Hearts have never won that, though in our defence, that’s due mainly to us never having played in the second division!  😜

Bazzas right boot

Had a relegation party then got relagated ourselves. Although, they did that in style- with a certain flair only they can do.

Not Stayed in the lower division for 3 seasons. (they used to have a pop at us staying down for 2 seasons).

They've probably never sacked their manager whilst flying at the top of the league 🤦

Have they ever been top with more than a few games gone?

They have played in it though...

Never through achievement. Aberdeen were league winners. Hibs finished 5th behind Aberdeen, Celtic, Hearts and Rangers. It just so happened the headman at the SFA at the time was Harry Swan, who also just happened to be the Hibs chairman.

"Aye, but hertz and Rangers wur in it the first 2, ken"?

Never quite got the logic of that excuse. It's like an admission of inferiority; an acknowledgement of where they are in the pecking order.

One of their more bizarre excuses/claims of which there are many.

The first team in Europe thing is an incidental footnote in the history of Scottish football. If that.

Not according to those clowns though. A fantastic achievement in their eyes. One Hibs.nut actually suggested that UEFA should strike up a set of retrospective medals and trophy and present them to the Euro trailblazers.

I kid you not.

My understanding is the European Cup was in its infancy and the big teams Hearts Aberdeen Celtic and Rangers refused to play as we had league matters to attend to and didn't want to be distracted on what seemed at the time to be a pointless tournament.

They've never been in the top European competition since. Hearts have qualified for all three European competitions on merit, Hibs just the one Eufa Cup/Europa league.

A good point. Their CWC place in 1972/73 was backdoor. Although you did omit their merited Intertoto Cup qualifications. Hibernian: still blazing a trail after all these years. :)
