Journalists - what will it take?

Armageddon

Recommended Posts

So nationally we've had the Hillsborough lies, photos of Diana dying in a car, phone hacking of the worst possible kind, stings and set ups a plenty then all the dirt digging to sell papers.  Locally we have the EEN posting stupid stories from England, copy and paste quotes from Facebook pages and football forums, plus over dramatic "*BREAKING NEWS* police car at local newsagents .... MORE TO FOLLOW" - then we have the Daily Record being controlled by a football club and using them like their own PR rag.

Very recently we've had the Ben Stokes situation from a family incident in New Zealand in the 80's and now Gareth Thomas confirming a reporter turned up at his parents door after trying to blackmail him into keeping it a secret.

So ... my question, what will it take to happen to before the public, or the authorities, take action and choke the industry to it's deserving death??

There are large parts of the media that are nothing more than sub-human scum. However there are also some very brilliant journalists risking their lives at times to break serious stories. They need separated out.

It's really hard to legally restrict the press because it's such a cornerstone of democracy.

In an ideal world, human beings wouldn't be so stupid and shit that this sort of behaviour gets rewarded. They aren't doing it for their own pleasure.

The Gareth Thomas case is outrageous.

His private health has been forced into the public.

While praised widely for sharing his HIV status and people saying it will help others, he has said he was not planning to but felt forced by whatever media outlet said they were going to.

The Stokes case is less clear but his response was fair enough being concerned for the effect on his Mum.

We (the public) are the problem. We lap up the clickbait and headlines making it very, very easy for journalists these days. The essentially give us what we want.

Mainstream media= manipulating control tool.

Outwith the shitey news papers in Scotland , look at the who controls the Sun, Daily mail ect... Murdock is one slippery dude ....

Look at the owners of the major newspapers  in the UK and the USA..Therein is the answer...

These 15 Billionaires Own America's News Media Companies;

News that billionaire Peter Thiel is funding Hulk Hogan's trial against news website Gawker set the media and technology worlds on fire last week, sparking a conversation about the ultra-wealthy's role in controlling the news. While a billionaire secretly funding a lawsuit to take down a news outlet may be a new way of using money to influence the media business, billionaires have long exerted influence on the news simply by owning U.S. media outlets.

Add the recent Guardian leader (no less) about the death of the Camerons' son. They suffered only "privileged grief" apparently.

Rupert Murdoch is one reptile though and Speirs , knew about and sanctioned the  tapping  a phone of a mother who lost her son, just for a story to sell the paper he was chief  editor  of , the vile ...News Of The World.

I get what you're saying, but... If it wasn't for good investigative journalism. We'd have no idea about the likes of the  MPs expenses swindle, the Yewtree scum, fake WMD etc...etc...

It's not a cornerstone of democracy in the UK. Mostly all Brit propaganda with cowardly journalists. How some of them can write some of the crap they do is beyond belief and even more incredulous, is some believe it!

I can’t see any justification for the Stokes story. There no legitimate public interest there.

Although given what Stokes was involved in in Bristol, he shouldn’t be painted as squeaky clean

It's not difficult.

I just wrote an entire dissertation on this idea . . . great idea in theory. In practice, you get people like Donald Trump and Boris Johnson and Vladimir Putin getting to decide what constitutes a violation of the regulations.

It never ends well, least of all for political outsiders and already marginalised groups of people.

Not if you have a country where the rule of law is supreme and where the Judiciary is independent (which it is not in the USA, as much as they pretend it is)

Executive (Government) and Legislature (Parliament) make the laws, then the Judiciary (Courts) interprets and enforces them.

Not Guilty and praised by the people he defended.

Going out late yes.

Not sure how associating that with his Mum's children being killed is meant to say anything.

Then they cry about press freedom.

But I agree it's a disgrace.

Many elements of the press in this country are far too free to do as thay please and very highly irresponsible

But billionaires run the press who fund the political parties and country narrative.

It is difficult.     Extreme resistance from the press for starters.     Some perfectly valid and honourable and some very much less so.      Freedom of the press is an important principle but the gutter press is an omnipresent parasitical presence feeding off that principle.

The best thing would be a functioning,  self regulating media system.      Productive,   responsible media forces draining the scum from the swamp.

And that is an absolutely massive presumption to make. The past couple of months in Parliament ought to have shown you--if not any of the numerous other examples throughout history--things can and do change in a flash. If you gut the underlying protections, there's nothing left when abuses inevitably occur.

Correct. So the BBC dumbed down long ago and have been at it too now, for years. The result of all this?

Hence not only Brexit - but most things wrong with British politics and British society. My conclusion?

This. The Gareth Thomas one is sickening. The guys had a really tough time coming to terms with his sexuality. Then being brave enough to be open to the public about it and now some Journo has told his parents that he has HIV before he could tell them himself. Not only that but the public now know very private details about his life. Absolutely disgraceful. I actually feel angry for him, poor guy. If that had been a doctor, they’d be struck off.

She is one  reptile of a jurno.  Kuennssberg, the Tory BBC political spin doctor and liar.

Tory activist and she was  instrumental in the onslaught of Corbyn. she was pulled up on several occasions for either lying or spinning articles on him.

She was Mays right hand press officer too.

A BBC editor disastrously tried to defend reporter Laura Kuenssberg after she deliberately trolled a father who challenged UK PM Boris Johnson in hospital  .

The editor of the BBC’s live politics programmes, including Politics Live, has made a fool of himself trying to defend Laura Kuenssberg.

Ms Kuenssberg, the BBC’s political editor, caused the father of a sick one-week-old girl to be dogpiled by supporters of Conservative prime minister Boris Johnson (yes, apparently some still exist) when she tweeted that Omar Salem was a “Labour activist”.
