Will not be missed. Yet another Hearts striker who cant score goals.

He is a better option than Uche but you’re right he just doesn’t seem to know how to score. Great chance again yesterday missed and when you watch him midweek fail to score from one yard out for Northern Ireland then you do worry a bit about his ability to score.

Not a number nine, more of a support striker. Looks like someone lacking in confidence and even his goal from open play was a rebound from a terrible penalty, hope he wasn’t on the bench cos of a hamstring strain

I'd like to know why he was on the bench?  Hopefully not because he was feeling his hamstring.

If that was the case (no idea if so) and he has done it in, then I can’t put into words what I think of the management and physio staff.

I can’t believe they would be so stupid............

......oh wait

Folk writing off an international striker who starts up top for a team that will qualify for the next major tournament, managed by a manager who everyone would give their left nut for him to manage us.

🤦‍♂️

Has decent movement and runs about a lot but we need a player with finishing ability whose all round game may not be rounded but please just someone to put it in the net.

Special Agent Dale Cooper

Definitely a hamstring. Source: Craig's interview on Hearts TV, no idea about the severity though.

In my opinion.

People saying he's not a number 9 is absolute nonsense. We've played to his strengths once this season. Away to Motherwell. And in that game he was fantastic. He's a hard worker that does a lot for his team mates. For me his lack of goals so far is down to the way the management set the team up. No cohesion, no game plan, no team work.

I really hope it's only a couple of weeks that hes out. I suppose it helps on a personal note that for the next few games at least. Or to be clear until Craig either walks or is given the sack. I'm not really bothered. Feeling so indifferent towards the club right now.

Exactly this. He would/will be an excellent signing playing with someone who can pick out his runs (naismith) not hump the ball up the park as we currently do. A change in manager and style would see a new lease of life in a number of our players.

Not his knee. Clutched his hamstring right away.

As mentioned I hope he wasnt nursing a wee strain. If he was keena shoukd have come on.

We have a squad of players where the managers approach seems to be “hi son, so

you're left footed and play mainly as a wing back, so am thinking you’ll be great playing as a sitting midfielder”. We don’t play to anyone’s strengths, we play to what Levein thinks could be their strengths. If anyone knows or has spent any time in a professional football environment, will know that players like simplicity. Sean Clare being asked to play right back, Washington/Uche being asked to play off long balls, Trying to make Berra a ball carrying centre back.........the list is endless. Play to their strengths and I bet we’d see a difference. This tinker football has been killing us for years. I couldn’t even tell you the last time we started back to back starting 11’s.

Why else would he be on the bench? If MacLean was simply prefered, i just, well, I, just, I. I want to cry.

And if he did have a strain, like Smith and Naismith before him, he shouldnt have been on the bloody bench, and Meshino or Keena or someone else should've started with MacLean MAYBE making the bench.

He is a decent player who works hard but to blame the management for his poor finishing isn’t fair. He has had quite a few decent chances this season and so far his finishing has been poor. As a few other have mentioned his finishing for his country the other day was very poor as well so it is a worry if we are going to rely on him to score consistently for us.

Captain Canada

How long until the injuries are put down to 'bad luck' again and used as an excuse?

We're just going round in circles here and it's beyond embarrassing now.

It really annoys me when I hear that someone is fit to take a place on the bench. You are either fit to play or you are not. I am 75 and would happily wander over from the Wheatfield stand

and plant my last verse on the bench

He played well against Motherwell at Fir Park. That was in the one game this season where the ball was kept on the ground, played through the midfield and there were players moving into wide positions on both sides of the park. The ball was played into him at his feet and he did very well to bring others into play to keep the forward movement going. Like many before him he looks a much poorer player when asked to operate up front on his own, whatever pre match line up and formation is announced (something which is waste of time announcing when it degenerates into a long ball game to 1 man left up front on their own). He won't be the only player wasted when the continued view of success on the touchline appears to be to try and play out goalless draws. One day those on the touchline will work out that the very best form of defence is attack.

I get your point. And please know I'm not being snarky. However I must point out I wasn't blaming the management for his finishing although I think I'd be well within my rights too as if his finishing needs worked on then doesn't that fall to the management to work on it with him?

With that being said what I meant was he needs the ball played into his feet. Or played into space for him to run on to. Or even dinked balls over the top for him to run on to. The point is we don't have a style of play. Players don't seem to know what their own jobs are never mind their teamates roles in the team. If we played to Washingtons strengths as we should because he's our main man up top he'd most likely have far more shots at goal. And because of that he'd probably be a lot more prolific too.

I was watching on Hearts TV, and Jimmy Sandison and Laurie Dunsyre were saying it is a hamstring injury. Also, not sure if anyone else has noticed but Jake Mulraney appears to be holding his hamstring during the games, as if he has tweaked something.

Hamstrings appear to be a big problem at Hearts at the moment. I'm going to bet my yearly wage that the management, coaches etc have no idea what they are doing. I.e. proper warm ups and warm downs, stretching, nutrition etc etc etc.

From Section S it looked 10,000% like a hamstring.

I'd add, when leaving the field, why on earth was he hobbling at such a pace?? The physio is with him... he's injured and clearly in a great deal of pain causing him to severely limp and hop – get him telt to either slow the hell down, take a lean, or get on a stretcher FFS.

“The 27-year-old has a rich pedigree, having spent the past five years at English Premier League side West Ham.

A graduate of Swansea University with a first-class honours degree and masters in sports science, Tom spent five years as a sports scientist with the Hammers before ascending to the position of First-team Fitness Coach in 2015.” - Our Head sport scientists bio. I’m sure he knows a little bit. I’m a strength and conditioning coach that is nowhere near his level and know exactly how to run the fitness side of a football team.

I also know how to coach and have f

done for 7+ years.... maybe I should send them my CV

Edit: I got distracted from my main point. You don’t get to the SPL never mind the EPL without extensive talent. It’s probably the most competitive job in a football team. There’s hundreds of applicants for one job and each applicant will have the 6 or so years of qualifications and experience. If you’re a coach, you have the option of head coach, 1 of the 2/3 first team coaches, reserve coaches. Under 20s coaches, goalkeeping coaches, and at some teams attack/defense coaches. As a sport scientist there will usually be 1 head sport scientist and an inexperienced assistant.

I do agree though that SOMETHING is going on. The management not listening to the sport scientist and doing their own thing would be my guess ? Levein could be seen as “old school” and when it comes to fitness there has been a lot of change in the last 2 years never mind 20 years.

Just picking off what it's got on Wikipedia say he scored 13 goals in 92 appearances for QPR and zero goals in 15 appearances for Sheffield United. No idea how many of those appearances were from the bench but not exactly prolific.

Yeah, I know! I'm just getting frustrated by the same things that are happening every week. Hamstring injury, bad tactics, rubbish performance etc.

I agree that CL etc is probably overruling him on a lot of things but it could also be that Tom maybe isn't so good at his job, although it is just a guess and food for thought. All this combined, (CL being old school, bad coaching, overruling Tom etc) will infiltrate into the first team resulting in bad performances. The solution is wholesale changes IMO.

Still can’t believe we gave him a two year deal. Unreal. Was picking up a salary months before he was even close to fit enough for the first team.

I felt the same. Looked a hammy immediately but he's maybe never had one before and didn't realise, even trying to play on.

Not sure about this but thought it might be pay as you play contract. If not then more mismanagement

Yeah I totally agree. I do remember when we acquired Tom that it was somewhat of a coup though. It would be strange if he was the issue.

At the end end of the day a sport scientist or s+c coach at the likes of Alloa should be able good enough to ensue we don’t have all these issues. The technology we have available would take a month or two to get used to but it’s incredible. It should make these issues near impossible to have. It’s as if our fitness people haven’t even got their level 2 fitness cert and are purely guessing their way through

Jake has said himself he feels a tightness in his calfs during games due to the sprint stop start nature of his game. Its nothing to worry about as he can feel it coming on.

All the other injuries I'm just not buying into the unlucky chat.

Plus the number of players returning only to drop out again very soon after.

At at half time he was walking around with his pants at his ankles, doing stretches, or it may have been one of they big elastic band things, but he was definitely tending some sort of problem, if not his hamstring then his groin.
