letsalldothebeattie
Had a poor game but been by far our best player this season. No need to start a thread looking to slaughter the guy after 1 poor game given how good he’s been this season
A_A wehatethehibs
Stop singling out individual players NO PLAYER IS PLAYING WELL It will not change until the manager changes. We’re long past the time where you can form any worthwhile opinions on individual players.

Berra has been awful but I dont think Halkett is as good defensively as we all hoped. Positionally all over the place. Berra seem to be on his own too often. Granted shouldn't really judge anyone when everyone is poor. And before I get told he is the least off the problems, I do know that. I think we miss Souter Will become great player at Hearts. For example, Halkett was caught miles out of position at Motherwell’s goal at Fir Park or his booking at Parkhead. Berra’s mistakes have been mega highlighted elsewhere. Today’s goals came from Clare losing his man (after allowing a shot while claiming a non-existent free kick), Uche putting Seedorf right through and Clare failing to put it in row Z when a comeback was a serious possibility. NB where is the Clare thread today? I’m amazed that hasn’t resurfaced after his worst performance yet in a Hearts jersey, ironically following on from what was probably his best. Anyway, their other chances, the rather alarming foot race apart, really came from the flanks as well. Clare threads are pointless. Mr stubborn is playing him. I think we miss Souter Christophe Berra has never recovered from the injury that took him off the field against Celtic at Tynecastle last season. While I have no idea of the extent of the injury I do think he was rushed back into the side because even then we were poor. Would more time out of the side have benefited him personally, in hindsight possibly, we will never know. It put a lot more pressure on John Souttar to hold up the defence on his own, always going to be a difficult task. I like the signing of Halkett but it is unfortunate that Souttar picked up an injury. While there may still be a place in the side for Christophe I do think that going forward we will look to have Halkett and Souttar as the central defenders. With Smith and Hickey in the full back positions that looks to me like a back 4 to build on. Halkett is effectively in a position now where he is having to do what Souttar was doing on his own for a while, holding up the middle of the defence. Once again yesterday showed just how much pace Christophe has lost as a result of whatever injury it was he picked up. He, Halkett, shouldn't be the focus of blame for the present situation and I think we will find that we have signed a good defender, who isn't scared to get the ball at his feet and can come up with a goal or two when needed. BervieJambo
One problem I see is that Halkett works best in a back 3, whereas that doesn’t suit Berra’s game. The balance and understanding isn’t all there. When Souttar and Haring come back, it gives us more options as those 2 with Halkett would make an effective back 3. Alternatively Halkett would drop out and we revert to the tried and tested Souttar and Berra in the centre. We have the personnel to play many different formations but not everyone suits every way. We are trying to fit the players we have available which is part of the reason we look so disjointed at the moment (however that is not a defence of our current management team as they should be able to achieve more with what they have). He looks bang average when he’s asked to actually defend. Decent on the ball for a defender but it would be pretty hard not to look good on the ball next to Berra.
