Interesting, isn’t it? All those Ls and Rs switching places. It’s almost as if it’s a perfectly legitimate quirk of the Japanese language, that translations to English throw up and highlight. 🤔

There are less sounds in the Japanese language than English. So R doubles up as R and L when speaking something like English as there is originally no L in their phonetics.......I think.

Leads to many interesting translations into English. Many times while I lived there I saw banners and signs advertising local politician`s 'Erection Rally'

The flip is also true. The amount of laughable Kanji tatoos in the West was fascinating to my Japanese friends.

The fun of language.

That’s good. Unfortunately there’s plenty around who maybe aren’t, so it’s good to highlight it.

As long as he remembers to add an 'Ah so' before an opposition players name, he'll do alright.

I swear if the old guy behind me tells him to get stuck in and stop fannying around I’ll boot him in the baws... been hearing it since Stevie Fulton was his player of choice for what is his favourite and only shout week in and week out, it’s a standing joke now!

Yep. Those weren’t a couple of random suggestions, mate. I’ve heard many variants of both over the last thirty years or so. The player and team quoted in the oh-so-clever jibes changes depending who is the best player in the world, and the team a player has been at or loaned from.
