Surely, they have already sold out all their tickets with it being under a week away so how’s that work then?

If so, even better.  That should be in the region of £75K in lost revenue and a headache for the club.

The real thing people should be querying is why UEFA act but the SFA don’t. The sectarian singing was no worse than it is most weeks yet the SFA do nothing.

Because Rangers (or Celtic) don’t have UEFA in their back pocket like they do with the SFA. Simple, really.

Yip. The SFA’s acceptance of the bigotry shown week in week out at both old firm clubs is a joke.

Celtic should have had the same for launching things at the players who knocked them out the champions league this year, neither sets of fans are doing our county any justice then you see the aberdeen fans being kept in a cage in Croatia never see that to the glasgow clubs for some reason

"Our supporters have been asked repeatedly by the club to refrain from indulging in this, and other forms of unacceptable behaviour," added the statement. "Sadly, the warnings have fallen on deaf ears and the actions of this minority will cause the club and the majority of good and decent Rangers supporters to pay a heavy penalty.

"Unfortunately a significant number of supporters, innocent of any wrong doing, will be unable to attend next week's match. This is deeply regrettable to all at the club and we hope that the guilty parties, who attracted the attention of Uefa might reflect on the damage their unacceptable behaviour is causing Rangers and their fellow supporters.

"If any individual supporter is unable to behave in a civilised manner then please stay away from Ibrox and our club. You are harming Rangers and that is something a genuine supporter would never wish to do."

Just read their statement, actually looks like a grown up has written this one. At least they’re not shirking away from it.

My mate just told me they have already sold out so they are going to need to tell 3000 people they can’t go. What a wee shame.

Probably because they know if they criticised it (like they do Scottish authorities) they'd get hammered even more (unlike what is done Scottish authorities).

Just about, minority deflection again.

Unless it's only 49.99% of those in attendance engage in the crap.

This. You’d have to be as craven as the SFA are to watch UEFA do this time and again and not be embarrassed into action

Institutions built on religious hatred. The SFA know the problem is HUGE and don’t want to open that can of worms. That’s why strict liability will never happen in Scotland.

This is from the game in Malta, so they should be able to identify those who caused this aye? Name and shame?

On the other hand if this is the Malta punishment you would imagine that the other away games might increase the severity. How many rollovers until it’s a stand then the stadium?

Makes the SPFL and SFA look like amateurs.

If all the rangers supporters unable to behave in a civilised manner actually do stay away they'll be left with about 5,000 supporters.

And folk on here thought it was only Ann Budge that bothered about this stuff.

Rangers chairman Dave King added: "Rangers is a club open to all and we will continue to convey this message at every opportunity through our Everyone Anyone initiative.

"Rangers has players and supporters from many religions, cultures and backgrounds but we are one and the same when we gather to support our club. If any supporter cannot accept that then Rangers is not the club for them."

Meanwhile, check out the barry new Orange away kit!

Exactly but they have had to do this in response to facing proper sanctions.  They are able to brush this sort of stuff off domestically because they know that the SFA are too spineless to do anything about it.

UEFA handing down a proper punishment has made them call out their fans which is something that they have point blank refused to do before now.

The most damning comment in the BBC article is the last sentence.

The Scottish FA and Scottish Professional Football League have declined to comment.

Shame on you.

Too embarrassed I suppose. UEFA fine Celtic every season and now close part of Ibrox, SFA, SPFL nothing to see here, BBC  - Old Firm game is the greatest game in the world for atmosphere.

It's a disgrace the SFA and SPFL are happy to say nothing about this and sweep it under the carpet. This is a sanction against Rangers but it tarnishes Scotland's reputation.  This country has a problem with racism and sectarianism and not enough is being done to tackle the issue.  The fact is that our two biggest clubs exist and thrive on sectarianism, it's all about money and that is why nothing is being done.
