Only 3 individuals from the first team squad who were at the club for the last game of the old stand remain; one of which is Austin MacPhee

John Souttar, Austin MacPhee and Jamie Walker. That's all. Insane to think of the player turnaround we've had.

A large amount of turnover, but the OP doesn't take into account academy youngsters who have moved into the first team like Cochrane, McDonald etc.

The Internet

As a comparison, Aberdeen have 5 players in their current squad who were in their first team at that time, 2 of which have been away and come back again, and Lawrence Shankland was still on their books.

Pretty much every team in football evolves over 2 years these days.

True

Gone are the days when the hearts team didn't really change from one year to the next. Robbo, Mackay, Berry, JC, Smith, Levein etc were all at hearts for a decade or more. Kinda sad that there's no real consistency but that's the way it goes now.

Players either don't make the grade or if they are really good they'll get a move down south. Soutter, for example, would be playing at a higher level were it not for injuries. You can see why levein has recently opted to bring in top players at the end of their careers; because they've made their cash already, and are less likely to want a move.

No one left from the last League Cup win either.

Ridiculous

Ive not checked but Id be surprised if there's anyone left who played the last game in front of the shed.

Maybe Jamie Walker?

Just shows that recruitment under Levien is a shambles.

On that same day, Patrick Thistle lost to Rangers 1-2.

Patrick have no players from that day, and Rangers 7, but Halliday (who was on loan to FK Qabala last season), Tavernier and Foderingham are the main 3. Jason Holt, Joe Dodoo and 2 youth players being the others.

from February that season.

(Hibs still have 5 players from their 1-1 home draw to St Mirren in the Championship, on the 6th May 2017)

My initial thoughts too. It’s not “insane” at all really, it’s just the modern game. You can look at most teams and they’ll only have a handful of players. Find it odd that people bemoan the lack of players not spending their careers at one club yet seem surprised clubs would it have a high turnover every couple of years.

Am I remembering correctly that Isma was the last Hearts player to score in front of the old stand, and first in front of the new stand?

Don’t think he scored the last ever goal though, sure it was 1-1 before Aberdeen got the winner that day.

Football fans are really slow to adjust to changes in the game. This is another good example. Another is that many still oppose the idea of us bringing in loan players. When squads changes as much as this thread shows they do, the idea that it is somehow detrimental to the squad cohesion to bring in a player on a one year loan deal is just silly.

This trend is a result if the bosman ruling in 1995. Given that was 24 years ago, I'd suggest it will be around 2050 before fans stop complaining about VAR.

Ps, lay off the OP, that is quite interesting to be fair and he doesn't seem to be moaning!!

Good thing is I think if we look again in 2 years the results would be different, which is rare these days. I think we may have a bit of continuity now.

Brighton Jambo

There will be a few posters desperate to spin that turnaround into another reason to criticise the manager and the club.  However go through that squad list and compare to our current squad, almost without exception what we have today is an improvement in terms of quality and experience.  Sure we would all like a nice settled team but if changes to to improve the quality and not just change for changes sake then I have no issue with it.

Erm, it shows how far we’ve come in terms of infrastructure.
