I would not describe him as that .He linked up play and held onto possession in difficult situations but there is a softness to his play(the other end of the scale being the likes of Smith Halkett and Washington). We are still not creating enough chances. Its going to be interesting to see whether Clare retains his place when the new recruits get up to speed.

As has been proven in each of 3 our ‘big’ games so far this season, we have had a decent first choice player come off injured in each game, so we really need a proper like for like quality for each position as we can for the season.

Everyone out of about 18 to 20 players this season will get at least 20-25 games.

Had a great game.

But let’s face it, and rightly so, there is no way Whelan isn’t playing at Celtic next week.

A few decisions to be made....

Clare won't play imo.  Damour and Whelan will be in the middle with Irving and Mulraney.  Hopefully Naismith in front of them and Washington up front.

Solid back 5 and dominate ithem n the middle.  Hickey and Smith providing a theat down the flanks whenever possible.  Halkett up for all set pieces.

Beauty of a much stronger squad.

Win this one and pack the place out for the Messhi debut.

For consistency of team selection, push Sean Clare forward to take Jamie Walkers place.  Bring in Whelan to take his place in the midfield.

We have a number of options with the new signings, also this might give a career boost to some of the youngsters who have stalled a bit, thinking Cochrane and Zanatta here.

Pasquale for King

As Levein has said he needs to add a bit more physicality to his game. Wonderful vision, can not only see the forward pass but also make it. Playing beside Whelan, Damour and Haring can only help him. Various options in CM now compared to a few weeks ago.

Snap! Clare will flourish in his preferred role
