No Naismith on Friday

Hopefully back next week

I'm happy with that.  We have to be able to perform without him and I would hope we'll take no risks and he'll be raring to go against Celtic with Moshi lining him up with multiple scoring chances.

Without Naismith we might struggle with this one, can’t see us scoring without him.

Yeah, although I'd think Bozanic is more likely to be on the bench than McDonald.

I said McDonald because if we require to take one of Whelan or Damour off then walker can move into centre, Clare further back and McDonal on the right. Bozanic might get the cal ahead of McDonald though.

Absolutely. Wasn't saying it was a daft suggestion. Just making a prediction based on previous selections.

Clare is a handy player to have if unplanned cover is required as he can easily play in any of the 5 midfield positions (without wanting to start a debate about his quality in the different roles!).

While that’s true, we’ve shown week in, week out that we can’t perform without him.  If Motherwell play like they did in that first half against Celtic they’ll beat us.

Will expect to see him back in time for the winter break then.

Sorry to be cynical, but I’m not buying the ‘subbed as a precaution’ angle. He came off at HT v Celtic ‘as a precaution’ in Feb and was out for 6 months.  I reckon we’ve rushed him back, like we did Berra, largely out of desperation.  I don’t think this ends well.

With Naismith out, I'm not very hopeful we can get a result, hope I'm totally wrong tho, maybe the new signings will make the difference, we shall see.

If Whelan and Damour can control the midfield, I think we'll have too much for them.

Im going for 3-0 Hearts with Washington (2) and Keena the scorers

They started really well against Celtic  and played some decent football.

I think there will be space for us to attack with some pace though - Mulraney and Washington should defo start.

He could have been injured at any time

You cannot just state he should have been on the bench and he would never have been injured

The number of medical and fitness experts on this board is statistically impossible but still they post

It's just common sense really after what Levein had said when he signed.

He had two bad injuries and surgery last season so you don't need any medical knowledge to understand that easing him back into things might be wise. The upshot is it now looks like he's unavailable tonight which is a very important game.

We absolutely ruined Haring last season by doing the same. Naismith cane back too early and got injured again and Berra still hasn't played well since his return from injury.

It just seems crazy to me that we have a squad of players yet are willing to risk guys who aren't match fit.

A very winnable game.

As much as we are shit and disorganised, so are Motherwell.

Even with Levein still in charge we should be winning this game.

Would have naisy in for clare if he is fit.

white could easily start but not sure if his fitness would allow it just yet.

This is the team for me, maybe swap one in the middle for Irving if they are not fit. Just need to tell the team to pass and move, especially the middle . Not just all stand up top for a punt.

This.  Naismith is a big miss but now we have Whelan I’m hopeful that, whilst we might miss the goals, at least we’ll have some leadership on the park.

We will need to get used to playing without Naismith as he never seems to be fit for any sustained period since being with us.  Never bought into the view that he was going to be some sort of messiah for us as he is just too injury prone. Good player when fit though.

Fancy us to get through tonight. Don't know if it will be 90 mins, aet or with penalties but I do believe we'll be in the QF draw.

Presumably the draw itself will be sometime after Sunday's ties?

Last line is key.

If he is, and he's confident and assured it will give the whole defence and team a boost.

Bobby was making everyone nervous, really effects the entire team.

I think Uche needs dropped as well for a bit.

I'd add ensure to compete for the second balls.

Ross county just launched it but by collecting the second balls built up momentum at times.

Scottish football is so simple.

Motherwell are a good side who have plenty goals in them.

If Hearts win tonight it will be a good result.

I can see what you are up to here, Hearts lose and it's Levein oot. Hearts win and it's only Motherwell they are shit anyway.

Hedging your bets☺

Tough venue and a tough side. I’d be willing to bet this is a fixture the management team could’ve done without. Lose and it’s curtains. I’d like to see a total change in performance and hopefully a better balance to the side. More tempo, less mistakes, all the things that can be influenced with coaching.

Joel

Smith Berra Halkett Hickey

Damour Clare

Walker Washington Mulraney

Uche

1-3.

They played a lot more passing football than we did. We were the ones launching the ball and not winning the second balls.

Hopefully after the comments from Washington that will change tonight.

Nah, not imo.

They were better at the second balls, that was the difference imo. They were just as shite in general play.

They launched it frequently down our sides, got the second ball.

Worked well for them, they won a lot of second balls defensively and in attacking positions, allowed them to gain momentum and therefore ground.

We'll done them.

Pure myth that other teams play total football imo.

Killie were masters at that last year and to a lesser extent Livingston.

We need to do better either way tho.

think this is going to be a huge game for Sean Clare now hes got the freedom/safety behind him go express yourself and silence the haters. The one evident think i noticed vs Celtic from Motherwell was left back they really really struggled to stop crosses. so lets get at the left back and tear him a new one.  Can't see richard tait at right back enjoying Wee Jake either mind you!

I can see this being tight, wouldnt be any shock if it's a narrow Motherwell win, I'll go with a 1-2 after extra time but certainly won't put money on it.
