Ryotaro Meshino - Signs on loan

Jambo in Japan

Bit late to the thread with this one, been away cycling and offline out in the countryside.

Hate to dampen the positivity but from what I've seen of the J-league, it's very different to to Scottish/British football. Midfielders can expect much more time on the ball out here and it is much less physical, as you might expect out in other European leagues, and the pace of the game is slower as you might expect. That said, players here tend to be much more technically able than your average Scottish Premiership player, and of course there are still a few diamonds scattered about the league who are a cut above the rest. The fact he's been taken by an EPL team at the age of 21 suggests we can expect a bit more from him and he is more than capable of keeping up with a game pace more suited to UK football.

In short, hoping to see a bit of speed and technical ability but he'll absolutely need to toughen up and hope he expects it. Wikipedia has him at 61kg and let's not expect him to receive any protection from referees when opposition players try and clear him out the second he gets on the ball.

100% expect his English to be poor as well so make of that what you will. Austin's Japanese could be a help, or his inability to understand Craig.. may also be a help.

There is definitely a small Japanese community in Edinburgh. Japanese is also offered at the University where they have native speakers, there is also the consulate in Edinburgh and the Japan society of Scotland associated. He should be fine. Edinburgh is a far more beautiful city than Osaka!

The boy's highlight reel reminds me a bit of Juanjo.

Not sure if that's a good thing or not.

Since they are knocking down the old scotmid building anyway, they could put a 2-story wagamama's in it's place.

Liked this bit near the end.

Meshino has been in Scotland which appears to be Manchester City’s preferred destination. He would appear to have agreed a 12 month loan deal with Hearts in the Scottish Premier League and it was confirmed today that Hearts have secured a work permit to facilitate the move.

But why of all the clubs is Hearts being considered as a possible destination for Meshino. Well apparently the answer may be to do with the Hearts Assistant Manager,Austin MacPhee, who speaks fluent Japanese!

It's amazing that some on here want him out the club.

I have to admit I’m getting a little bit excited about seeing this guys play. Hopefully we’ve secured a gem of a player for the season!

You're not the only one.

CL is almost as excited about thus guy as he was about Sean Clare and Soufian El Hassnaoui.

I heard he's a big fan of Strictly Come Dancing. He's particularly fond of the professional dancer Oti Mabuse. In fact, he's so keen on her, he's commissioned a doll to be made which looks like her. A sort of Toy-oti if you like.

I'll get my kimono.

I'm really excited to get the young man from Japan. He appears to be very highly regarded and the fact that the Japanese national team are scouting about is very promising indeed - as this article suggests:

 https://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/sport/football/hearts/latest-hearts-news/ryotaro-meshino-japan-football-expert-explains-why-potential-hearts-loanee-is-different-from-the-rest-1-4987822

One caveat, I really hope he is not being over hyped but of course the fact that Man City have bought him suggests otherwise.

Really exciting prospect I think.

I wouldn’t worry. Apparently Ryotaro means “splendidly stout son”(really!), which is how David arrived at hearts. Probably explains the link.

Arthur Morgan

If he is on the Japan national team's radar he must be decent. Better than the majority of players in Scotland I would think.
