MR INCREDIBLE
Looking back were we to quick to dump Cathro?? He obviously had an idea of the way he wanted us to play but he never had enough quality in the team to implement his methods. Now we have quality players but have a management team with absolutely no game plan. Just putting it out there.!!!

upgotheheads
He was handed a tough job with too many new players and he didn't have the personality to get them to gel. We seem to be repeating the process now in terms of players, the only difference is that nobody can accuse CL of not having personality and he will also have Naismith as a leader on the pitch (hopefully). If it doesn't work this time we're up 5h1t creek without a paddle.

Soapy Soutar
Just because pf the state we are in now does not mean we got rid of cathro to quick. Bazzas right boot
Obviously a good coach. Horrific manager. Results and performances were terrible. Getting sacked after getting beat of Peterhead was the correct decision. Nothing at all to do with the current situation. If our poor form continues, CL will be sacked as well. Bauld
If he had stuck with the team he inherited he might have done better. Instead almost an entire team was signed in January and it all went to shit from there. Come the summer though it was clear this wasn't a job he could handle. He is a good coach but he is either not ready to be a manager or just doesn't have it to be one. He couldn't get his ideas across to the players. He also made the same mistake Levein is making now. Putting more value on controlling possession than attacking the goal.

I'd be extremely surprised if Hearts have a 'principle of play' at the moment. If we do, it's probably the worst footballing principle going. A throw back to the early 90s and just more evidence for Levein to get sacked.

A_A wehatethehibs
Cathro was not cut out for management, no doubt an intelligent guy with the stats and analysis - he’s in the premier league so that tell a story. There’s not many Scottish coaches there, Kris Boyd and Stephen Craigan etc certainly will never be there But he never was and never will never be a leader or decision maker. It was a bad judgement call to hire him and his record is therefore an extended part of Leveins record - Levein was the only man on planet earth who felt it was the right appointment, and I don’t believe Hearts went through a proper recruitment process with objective criteria. Levein just went straight for his man. As a club we have not gone through a proper “Hire a manager” recruitment process in 8 years since Paulo Sergio in 2011. Jeff
In terms of football he had the right idea and we did play some nice stuff, he was awful at man management and motivating us when things went pear shaped though. I agree his man management was poor but this might have improved. He is in the EPL while our present coaches would struggle to coach in the Sunday Churches League. We took a gamble that Cathro could be converted from being a good coach to a good manager. It didn’t work either on the park or in his off park duties, especially how he communicated with the press. i also disagree with your statement about quality players. A_A wehatethehibs
You have to laugh when you think how wrong that appointment was Neilsons team sitting 2nd, Johnsen showing good form, most players all working very hard, all we needed to do was basically get an experienced steady pair of hands in to take over, not make too many changes or pull up trees and we would have been 3rd or 4th Instead we hired a novice who looked to reinvent the whole team that January and we totally capitulated. Hilariously bad appointment- the exact opposite of what would have worked. Edited August 12, 2019 by A_A wehatethehibs
