His kicking was an upgrade on Bobby's

Bobby's barely made the half way line, Joel capable of finding a different post code

Nucky Thompson

Nerves played a slight part in his debut, but the boy oozes class. His presence and composure are brilliant

Dallas Green

Thought he was very solid.

Had a spill in the first half, after seeing the goal back it went through his legs so probably should have saved it and his kicking was a wee bit wayward... however, he looked very assured, took crosses well, saved Washington from a possible OG and the conditions were absolutely horrendous for a GK. I think he is gonna be an excellent signing.

I like how he wanted to play out from the back too. Looked for wee dinks into midfield as well.

Looks calm and in control similar to Jon mcglaughlin

If he can be anywhere near as good as Jon, then we are winning trophies with this kid!

Tom Hardy’s Dug

I’m a fan of Levein and did feel the keeper position needed addressed.

I don’t get the positive vibes from last night so much.

He didn’t have anything to do, other than the goal where the ball went through him and when he nearly cost us a goal. His distribution probably hit a Hearts player less than 25% of the time.

He does have an air about him though and a kind of presence. But the real test will be next week. Last night was a tick box exercise in getting your debut out the way.

Sounds a bit of a 'bombscare'. At least he would if it was Doyle or Zlamal who went with the wrong hand.

Time to write him off then?

People knocked Bobby, yes he did have a few bad decisions but as your only ever as good as those protecting you then what chance has any keeper got playing behind the likes of the Hearts captain?

I fear for any keeper playing for Hearts..

Dont think hes found a Hearts player with a kick yet.

Would need to see it again but first impression was he should be coming for the cross at their first.

Not entirely sure he's going to fix our keep situation.

Slightly worrying.

I wouldn't read too much into it when your captain can't take control.

Joel will prove himself over the next few games and his confidence will grow.

Jon mclaughlin was 'not an upgrade on jack hamilton' according to some footballing luminaries on here after his first few games so forgive me if I don't lay into this lad after 2 matches.

Its ridiculous that some on here can judge a professional player on 1 or 2 games.

Not really. Most have had enough of an uninspiring coaching team and see the same things happen week in week out.

In truth, they feel an odd victory here and there just prolongs the mediocrity as we never find consistency.

You should stick to quoting posts that are critical of hearts and going 'this'. Trying to make points isn't a strength of yours.

I think he will be a lot more settled with Halkett and Souttar in front of him instead of Berra.

Why? Berra has always run like a girl, but he can shift.

Why again, will Berra not being there make the keeper better.

Maybe there is a communication breakdown between him and the keepers, but a few times now he's been caught in a 'whose ball is it?' leading to a goal. He isn't a ball playing centre half, so keeper more likely to just hoof it anyway. Felt last season's unbeaten run was down to the two centre halves Souttar and Dunne. Had they been present for the Murrayfield semi we'd have won without Naismith.

Just not convinced by Berra right now, and once Souttar is fit, any back two pairing should always be Souttar and Halkett with Berra sitting out.

This post has aged well.

Seen nothing that he’s an improvement. In fact today may have been one goal less with Bobby in goals.

Swiss born Pereira signed for Man Utd whilst Sir Alex Ferguson was manager.

I’d give him a bit more than a couple of games before writing him off. He might not be an improvement, but give the boy a chance and judge him over a reasonable amount of games.

So you’re still going with the only reason he’s still at Man Utd is because Jose likes Portuguese players ?

A good keeper shouldn’t need time to settle in. He just has to make saves.

An outfield player has to blend in with his other team mates.

There's a whole lot more to being a good keeper (or any kind of keeper) than making saves. Communication and understanding between defence and keeper is crucial.

Another classic ‘what a signing’ goes to ‘get him to ****’ within what, 180 minutes of game time.

Some bunch.
