You dont need to live near a woodland.

Recycle your own garden waste .

Or cough up 25 quid for more plastic bins plus transport to empty it.

It should be 500 pounds to have a brown bin.

In an ideal world, it would be hard to argue against that.

Unfortunately, we dont have that.

We are a mix with ignorant, selfish and downright lazy *****.

You need to pay to get garden waste lifted?

Is it £25 per bin load or for the year?

Per year

Edinburgh must be the only place that charges extra. Suppose you have to pay for the trams somehow.

It's the real world mate.

And we are already 10 years too late in seriously tackling the mess .

Garden waste is one of the easiest recycling issues.

Who_put_the_ball_in...

I live in East Lothian and ours is free as we don’t use the rest of our money to subsidise an annual tourist festival.

I lived in England for years and the area I was started charging years ago. I think it’s £40 per year there.

Just a matter of time before they charge. I'm in Midlothian and they have introduced a similar charge albeit £35 per year.

I refused on the basis that council tax went up 3% or so, they stopped giving out food recycling bags, they closed the swimming pool in the village and wanted to close both the library and the leisure centre too. I appreciate it can't be easy to run a council or balance the books but I'm more than happy to go to the recycling point every now and then.

They can stick their charge right up their broon bin.  Its (garden waste) come from the land so I've no issue with it going to landfill.

Can't win with garden waste if you have a communal bucket chute - I chucked a load of cut grass in there and the council refused to take the bins because of garden waste - Flats don't have brown bins or an alternative, so wtf are we supposed to do with it 😠

You need to synchronise your grass cutting with bucket collections. Cut your grass when one of the bins is emptied then you have 2 weeks to put your other rubbish on top of it.

Voila- nae bother.

Our estate pays a gardener who cuts the grass and leaves it on top of the lawn since the brown bin charges.  Our street has a number of flats and few if any pay for the brown bins.

Charging for this and not enforcing collection is an absolute joke, but then it should be part of the council tax anyway but that is needed to pay the trams debt.

Our bins are emptied twice a week

But yeah, I done that, I just buried it and they took the bin a few days later.
