South Korean fans sue Juventus because Ronaldo stays on the bench

Say What Again

Bit of a strange one. If he was ‘contracted to play 45 mins’ then I’d imagine that was included in the fee Juve would have received.

Fans taking legal action is beyond my interest, but I’m sure Juve were paid handsomely to play this match - featuring Cristiano Ronaldo. Arguable even because of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Bazzas right boot

Quality.

I'm going to sue Hearts for "mental anguish" when Stevie Maclean DOES come on for us as a sub.

Jambo, Goodbye

Some fans paid over $400 for a ticket!

"When the game was first announced, organisers said the contract with Juventus obliged Ronaldo to play for at least 45 minutes, prompting many fans to splash the cash, according to Seoul law firm Myungan."

Ronaldo is HUGELY popular in Korea and I wouldn't be surprised if almost all the ticket sales were purely to see him play.

Pavel Nedved said "I also hope Ronaldo plays. But he says he doesn't want to. I'm sorry there's nothing I can do".

The stadium holds 50,000 and was sold out in under 3 hours.

The Treasurer

It's only a matter of time until the tourist fan-bois that "support" the EPL franchise clubs go down this route

As much as I'd love Hearts to be one of the biggest clubs in the world...

...I'm also glad we're not. How devoid of Seoul are these "glamour" friendlies?

The Internet

I was gutted when barca didn't bring Messi over for the friendly in 07. Then he showed up to play hibs the next again year. Should have sued.

That’s the gamble, as Tony Green would say on Bullseye.

I went to Scotland v Argentina in 1990 in the hope of seeing Maradona but he fecked off at the last minute to some event elsewhere, no doubt for a huge backhander. At least we had most of the World Champions to fall back on and we beat them!

I’ve been to a few EPL matches but I’ll never do a tourist match, especially a friendly, to see one individual.

I don't think he was contracted to play (at least) 45 minutes though, unlike Ronaldo.

Imagine if Ronaldinho hadn't featured for Barcelona... Romanov might've just ran onto the pitch in full kit

Well, tbf if you're going to try and milk the asian market you should really deliver why they're coming to watch you.

FWIW I hate this part of modern football. Koreans don't give a **** about Juventus, they want to see good players. Its irrelevant if its Juve, Milan, PSG, Man City. I wish clubs or even those Koreans would reject this blatant attempt at commercialising their market and support their local team.

It's a risk you take. I might go to the theatre to see a certain actor but if they're unwell then I've a ticket for the play not the actor. They saw Juventus play.  At most they should get a refund of ticket.

Not sure what Juventus promised. If they put up posters advertising game with Ronaldo the main man.

He was sitting on the bench as far as I can tell, so should have been fit enough to play.
