RobboM
It's pretty harsh on the umpires though. First ball ALL the England players turned down the option of a review Warner's dismissal BOTH ussie batsmen turned down the option of a review All the players have got it as wrong as the Umpires probably bar the Siddle inside edge (which was exactly what DRS was introduced for) and the Smith one he got hit outside the line of off stump. Understood, what I meant was it looked out, indeed it only needed to be clipping the stump for the decision to be upheld, and was a good use of DRS to overturn an error. Not a really terrible umpire decision and I'd guess that England would have used their review had it been given Not Out. I guess my point is that the errors have been as much on the part of the players as the umpires. Hardest game in the world umpiring .... robbo1874
That's an amazing ton considering how the innings went. Aussies will be delighted with this total. Could be a tricky time when England eventually get in. This total might not be so bad.
Boris
All out 284. England may just have let this game slip away from them. Tricky few overs for England’s openers.

And Steve Smith will be captain. Good start. Aussies stabilise things and Anderson injured. But England still have the momentum. Big session now. Can't be - his penalty included a clause that he couldn't be in leadership for the 12 months after his ban ended. What an innings from him though - it's right up there as one of the best 100's you're ever likely to see. I'm beyond pumped for this series - I'm flying over for the second, third and fourth tests, and the gap between third and fourth allows a weekend to see us play Accies. Hugely in fact. Anderson's loss is a huge blow but that's sport for you. Although I take a keen interest, it didnt occur to me that Anderson and Broad had taken well over 1,000 test wickets. Just tremendous.
robbo1874
Brilliant morning ahead. Will the Aussies be batting again today? Could quite easily happen, not saying it will. Looks like it could be another tricky day for batting when you're never really in. England need to get a lead because batting last on this wicket could be tricky. Reckon it'll get very two paced. Boris
Well done Rory Burns. England 42 behind, 4 down. If they can bat most of, if not all of, tomorrow then they should be in a good position. Aussies with the new ball though...
RobboM
Got my eye on an unusual record for Rory Burns that I'm sure Geoffrey Boycott (amongst very few others) achieved which is to bat on all 5 days of a Test match. That's 3 days ticked off, needs to come back in to bat late on Day 4 into Day 5 😋

I don't think he's a natural captain, comparing him to eg Eoin Morgan, but neither was Cook. If you mean affecting his batting I think you might be right but equally there's the pressure on his batting from the lack of a stable top 4 that has been coincidental to his captaincy. Just imagine the freedom and boost he would get if the rest of the top 4 could regularly contribute an extra 100 runs between them.

The whole point of test cricket is you have to bowl out the other side twice to win. The only exception being if the other side declared in their first innings, effectively bowling themselves out. It would be a completely different form if you just went to the first innings scores. Edit: You might call it a limited-overs match. And have say, fifty overs a side. And if played between international sides, call it that too. And then think of a catchy abbreviation. Like say, I dunno. ODI? Yeah, that sounds good. Anderson is obviously out, presumably Archer fit enough to play. Moeen Ali so woefully out of form with bat and ball needs to be dropped for his own good, Jack Leach deserves a chance after his batting against Ireland and bowling performances for Somerset. Any others? Does Bairstow need to be dropped as a kick up the backside?

Boris
A funny game. England really need a hard look at themselves. Having the Aussies 122-8 on day one and losing by a bucketload is terrible. Lords should be fun.
Melbourne Jambo
An absolute clinic on the last 2 days. Steve Smith the best batsman in the world, with Nathan Lyon the most consistent spinner and an array of quicks to compliment him. Lords traditionally good for us, however not as clinical there in recent series. Think we make one change - Starc will come in for Siddle IMO Lord's specialist. England will punt Ali with Anderson out as well. Wouldn't surprise me if Deenly is dropped either. Think they'll stick with Bairstow (but have no idea why). Agree with most of that but also think that Mitch Marsh will come in too. I actually think that England will only make the one enforced change, Archer for Anderson. Joe Root was vehemently defending Moeen at the end of the game and he has a major say on the line up. Could be well wrong though as he is a walking wicket and can't bowl for toffee just now; especially with Lord's not favouring spin.
