First car, best car, worst car?

As per title. Can’t remember seeing a thread on car history so thought I would split it into 3 simple choices. Bit of car nostalgia!

First car. Mk2 Opel Kadett. Looked like the Mk2 Astra. 1.2 hatchback. Unbelievably slow. Went everywhere with foot to the floor. 5 quids worth of fuel lasted days!

Best car. 1990 Vauxhall Cavalier 2000GSI. First performance car although by today’s standards it was still pretty slow. Had a couple of Alpine 12 in subs in the boot. Made your hair move! Absolutely loved that car!!

Worst car. 1988 Mk 2 VW Golf Driver 1.8. Dreary, slow, 4 doors. Such a crap car. Developed a fault where it idled at 3k rpm and I couldn’t fix it. So glad to see the back of it.

Over to you.

My first car was a vauxhall chevette, for a slow car it was actually quite a decent wee motor. Easy to work on.

My best car is my current car, a BMW 320 diesel. Excellent motor, quite rapid but still get 57 mpg and only 30 quid to tax.

My worst car is, without a doubt, a fiat punto. Built on the cheap using reject pieces of meccano. I was getting wear and tear issues when it was under 4 years old with my 25000 on the clock. Also, it had the power of a wet fart from a constipated person.

For a fourth category, my favourite car was a mk3 cavalier SRI. Now that was a fun car to drive, capable of a decent speed. I removed the SRI badges from it as it was fun watching wee boy racers trying to overtake what they thought was a bog standard cavalier.

First car was a Leyland Mini. Learned to drive in it and loved it.

Best car is my current car, (dont laugh) a diesel Nissan Note. Ticks all the boxes for what I want/need for a car and is very economical.

Wort car was a Vauxhall Belmont. Awful to drive, uncomfy seats and expensive to run.

First car yellow fiat seicento sporting handled like a gokart and was a great wee car.

Worst 2002 1.4 astra. Alright car just not exciting

Best is my current car BMW m140i. 340 bhp 4.6 0-60 mph. Handles great and goes like proverbial off a shovel

Currently I have the same answer for first, best and worse as I've only ever had one car.

An L plate Ford Escort 1.3, I was given it for Christmas by my Grandad in an effort to encourage me to restart my driving lessons, completely backfired as I had to insure the bloody thing on my provisional and it then left me too skint for lessons, it sat outside of my house for a year before getting SORN'd, eventually flogged it for 50 quid.

First: a hand-me-down Mk2 Escort 1.6 Ghia in that awful burnt orange colour.

Worst: Vauxhall Nova 1.2. Only decent thing about it was its colour.

Best: toss-up between Mk2 Golf GTi 8 valve and a (seriously) 2003 diesel Mondeo.

First car:  1994 3 door Ford Escort 1.2 in red.

Worst Car:  1994 3 door Ford Escort 1.2 in red.

Best car (and current): Skoda Kodiaq. This is my 6th car since my first was bought in 1998 and I reckon I'll keep it for at least ten years.

I've only had 2 cars, a 2016 Mazda 2 and a 2019 Mazda 2 to replace the old one

Best car would be the 2016 model, as it was my first car. I loved the damn thing, and was in 2 minds about handing it back to upgrade to the newer one.

However, the 2019 one has better AC, Cruise Control, Electric Wing Mirrors and a whole host of other things the older base model one didn't.

I loved the old one so much, I transferred the registration plate onto my new car as a tribute!

First car: Fiat Punto

Best car: Skoda Karoq - perfect for what we need

Worst car: BMW 328i. Lovely car, right enough, but I grow to hate it as I spent so much time stuck in traffic when I had it and I reckon the seating position (and time spent in it) caused the back issues I’ve been dealing with for years since.

First car - vw golf mk4. At one point none of the doors worked, the headlights turned off until the electric windows wound back up to the top and the radio would turn on if you opened the door (once the doors were fixed)

Worst car - vw polo .. took a week to get to 70mph

Best car - Freelander 2 or Fiesta 1.0 eco boost - can’t decide

First car: a Mini that my parents bought for me when I passed my test

Worst car: Fiat Strada that I bought to replace the Mini as I wanted a bigger car. Horrible brown/orange colour and a terrible car. In hindsight, I wish the  18 yr old me had realised that the Mini was by far the better car

Best car: Jaguar XKR, bought when it was 13 yrs old and still loved it when I had to get rid of it after 6 years of fun, enjoyable driving. Second best car was a Ford Capri 2.0 Ghia, always having to repair it but it was a fun car when it was running!

First Car - 1975 Escort Mk2 1.3GL in Gold.

Best Car - 2019 Jaguar F-Type in Red

Worst Car - I don't buy bad cars, but I did have a 2011 Ford Fiesta 1.3 Titanium Diesel when I was commuting to Clydebank every day. Nothing wrong with it except for it being kinda boring. :whistling:. I also had a 2001 Audi TT Quattro that cost me over 3 grand to fix when the timing belt snapped...:arghh:

Special mention to 2 previous cars that I wish I still had, Golf GTi 8V Mk2, 1986, Jade Green with BBS alloys, and an 2007 Alfa Romeo Brera JTS in Red. An absolute beauty.

Worst - BMW 3 Series Tourer - went through money like a high class Hooker.

First car, I was soo proud for a while, was a 1951 Ford with a very poor heater and no windshield washers. It was a nightmare to drive in winter. It had the disconcerting habit of losing all ability to steer at awkward moments, so I got rid of it before it killed me or someone else.

Best car I ever had was a 1992 Nissan Maxima. Drove it for over 20 years and never had a problem, and it could go like the wind.

Currently driving a 2009 Nissan Altima, 3.6 litre V6, and it's so fast it's scary. Never had a nickel's worth of repair work to be done.

Honourable mention to my Mitsubishi FTO version R

1st - Fiat Punto 1.2. Not really getting the hate for the Punto on here, had several years of happy motoring with mine. Maroon too, which was nice.

Best car - Jaguar Xf-S 3.0. Still got this, coming up for ten years old, still a beautiful piece of engineering, and fast as feck too.

Worst car - Alfa 159 2.4. Had a 147 before this and that was great fun, but this thing was just a terrible design. Weighed an absolute ton, so even with two and a half litres it felt sluggish. Suspension was absurdly complex and needed parts every few months. Head gasket and clutch eventually went on 90k miles, and off to the scrappy we went.

Next car - Tesla Model S, hopefully...

I've only ever had three (and I still own two of them!):

First (and worst) - 1999 Ford Fiesta Finesse

Second (and best - still have in storage) - 1993 Mazda RX-7

Current - 2000 Dodge Viper

The Viper is fun, and immensely powerful - it's an 8.0 litre V10 truck engine in a car made entirely from plastic, but it's ******* lethal in the wet, and I do mean lethal

First car in 1960 a 1949 Hillman Minx. Later failed the MOT test rusted out chassis and was dumped.

Second Car ten year old Vauxhall Victor, the worst car I ever owned.

Third car a 1966 Morris Oxford brand new. The best of the three.

Since coming to Canada I have had to best of memory twenty three cars, mainly Chyrsler and Honda. My two Honda Pilots the best ever.

Best car: BMW 316ti Compact. Loved that car.

Worst car: Not mine but the wife had a ln Astra (shape before the current model) it was a 1.4 but non-turbo. Unbelievably underpowered and slow.

Still driving my first car...only learned to drive when my son was born, but have ordered my next car...being built at the moment delivery around Sept/Oct.

First Car: Jaguar XE Sport

Best Car: Audi Q8 Vorsprung (hopefully, as only test drove it)!

Worst Car: Can’t really answer yet, but the XE has been decent...not many issues over the past 3 years, apart from being about as much use as a chocolate teapot in the snow (even with winter tyres).

First car  -  a 1.1 Escort.  In retrospect it was a bit s**t but, hey! it was my first car.

Worst car - a Proton something.  Genuinely  scary going round corners and I had to drill a hole in the spare tyre well in the boot to let the water that collected there from goodness-knows-where out.

Best car - probably my current one, an Audi A6.  Middle aged car for a middle aged bloke.  It doesn’t turn heads but it comfortably eats up the miles going up and down the road.

Favourite cars :1976 Maroon Mini, white roof, tuned, twin carbs, awesome !

1991 Mini Cooper S, not as fast as the 76 but nicer!

1994 Toyota Corolla GTI, probably best GTI of it’s time, superb!

best Car : Audi S4 or current BMW 335d GT

Worst Car : 1979 Vauxhall Shove-it - total shed! Great shade of maroon though!

special mention for Ford Escorts Mk3 1986 1.3 and Mk4 1.6 Ghia, and Scoobys  WRX’s eagleeye and hatch!

First car - Ford Focus Zetec, it was a company car and as i'd not passed my driving test when they changes our jobs and gave us cars it was used as a pool car at our head office in London for a few weeks until i passed my test.  It was only after driving it for a year that i discovered that one of my team had used it and had pumped her boyfriend in it!

Best car - Volkswagen Toureg in the correct shade of maroon, i bought it 5 days after the 5-1 final and although it cost me a fortune (new tires every 35000 miles at $1400 a set for example) i absolutely loved it.  The salesmen had the easiest sale ever that day.

Worst Car - Toyota Sienna minivan, technically my wife's car but i was the owner, it was just awful, we only kept it for 6 months but for that entire period i felt like i'd been emasculated.  I have a pathological hatred of minivans now.

First car Peugeot 306 gold colour. Cost me £500 and done me for my first year. Had to punch the glove box for the blower to work. Central locking stop working too so ended leaving it unlocked everywhere, then someone pissed on the passenger seat on night 😂.

Best car: A toss up between my mk2 Focus RS & my e92 M3. Think the M3 gets the nod just. Amazing car to drive easy to drive and at the touch of a button it becomes an animal, and with a little mod done to the exhaust the neighbors got a free V8 alarm clock too

Worst car: R reg BMW 316 paid £800. Had it 8 months and spent about 7 months being fixed before the head gasket went.

First - the original Fiat 500. By any objective standards the worst but about the most fun to drive. 0-60 took about an hour (if it ever got there, which didn't happen if there was any sort of upward slope) but 0-30 was surprisingly quick because it was so light that it had some of the acceleration over that range of a motorbike. In town you could drive flat out all the time and not risk breaking any speed limit by much. Double declutching from the unsynchronised first gear also introduced a now long lost skill.

Worst - probably a diesel Jag XF. A lovely car in every other way but the need to clear the DPF filter by driving at a steady 40mph or more for at least 20 minutes every few weeks made it totally impractical if you lived more than half an hour from the nearest motorway or decent stretch of dual carriageway.

Best the petrol Jag XE in R Sport form - just a beautiful machine.

1st car was an Alfa Romeo Alfasud, you could stand next to it and watch it rust!

Worst car mk2 Mondeo. Bought it from my wife's best mate, as she was getting married and was skink. What a piece of shit. It decided to burn though a piston on the M5 on the way home from work one day, and ingested all of the oil. There were flames coming out of the exhaust pipe!

Best car - Chrysler Grand Voyager. Went to Florida in 2012 and got one of these as a hire car. Loved it so much that I bought one when I got home. I can drive from Herefordshire to Edinburgh in an armchair!

1st Ford Orion. ok, brakes were spongey, timing belt went, was gutted, but my mate rebuilt it.

Best Merc c220 coupe. Even though everybody called it a hairdressers car.

Worst  Renault 5 bought for £800 and ran it into the ground after 4 years. Got £300 trade in, passenger door stopped shutting. When the guy drove it into his yard, it probably flew open.

My first car was a MK1 VW Golf. Bought it from a guy I worked with for £250 (2003). Safe to say it was pretty ****ed but these were the Max Power days so it was to be a project. Drove it from Eroll to Fife with no insurance or road tax, speedo didn't work and picked up a hitch hiker along the way

Minted wee car though, looked the business with the original MK1 alloys. Pity it barely run!

Best, while not strictly mine but payments come out of my shared account was a Fiat Siecento Schumacher Edition. Basically a go kart with a roof, was like shit off a stick and the handling was outrageous. A fun wee car.

Worst was my last car, a Vauxhall Astra VXR. Great looking car, white with black alloys but **** me I've never had so many issues with one car.

First car was a Mk2 Ford Escort 1.3 Popular in hearing aid beige. Broke down a lot but I loved it when it was going.

Best car is a bit tricky as I’ve owned so many. The one I’d like back would be a 1984 Mercedes 260E. The W124 series, built like a tank with a lovely straight six engine that was super smooth despite having 260,000 on the clock when I got rid of it.

Worst car would either of the times I was stupid enough to buy a Renault but I’ll nominate my Renault Fuego. Supposed sports coupe but didn’t have enough power to be fun, which is just as well as the suspension and handling were terrifying.

Harry Potter

1st car a mini clubman, bought in 1978, 5 years old 850 pounds sold for 475 with 2nd gear jumping out,

replaced rear subframe, common fault with rust.

Best was my Ford Capri 2 litre , bought for 2500 in 1989, but ended up a right off, thanks to a driver turning right in to my path,

insurance gave me 1900, what a joke.

Worst was an Astra, bought from a big dealer, 25000 miles and a faulty camshaft , after a week, was fixed , few months down the line

the head gasket went , looked like the original owner had starved engine of oil.

Have a mondeo now , a 02 plate ,  still looks good and drives very well.

That's astonishing! I reckon I get mine changed every year and that's sub 15k.

D'you have minimum tread depth legislation? Bear in mind we could get 3 points on the licence for one tyre under minimum therefore 4 could see you gain 12 points and thus lose your licence. Unlikely, I appreciate, but a legal possibility.

I used to drive 35k a year and certainly didn't change tyres as much as once a year. And with a company car I had no need to flirt with the legal limit of tread depth. It was mostly motorway or fast trunk roads. Now retired and down to only 5k a year mainly in town. I still get 3 years or  more out of tyres. I guess its down to driving pattern and style. And quality of tyre? - when driving a lot at motorway speeds I  was always conscious of what contact with the road depended on.

First car - Bright orange Ford Escort bought off my brother NSC250P was the reg. 20 mpg and a steering wheel the size of a polo mint!

Best car - Unbelievably it was a Corsa CDTi 1.3. All electric windows and roof. Great mpg. Nippy as hell too, Great around town. Bus wrote it off at Almondvale roundabout.

Worst car  - Without a Citroen C3. The bubble shape. Utter piece of ****. Nothing but problems and drove like a turd.

I used to get about 30k miles from my Golf TDI, Colleagues used to slag me off for driving like a pensioner, it was a company car too so I should really have been chucking it around.

Anyway, like a few on here my first car was a Vauxhall Shuvit, maroon of course.

Worst car was a mahoosive Volvo 740GL, it was luxurious and had the potential to be my best ever car but I only got about 1k miles from it before the engine blew.

Best car was probably the wife's Ford Puma, bit girly but by Christ it was fun to drive.
