T20 Cricket coming to Edinburgh

A new European T20 Cricket competition has been announced with franchises including Edinburgh, Glasgow, Belfast, Dublin, Rotterdam and Amsterdam. World class players have been drafted into some squads and the Edinburgh Rocks have managed to land Martin Guptill in the draft. The competition starts end of this month (I think) with fixtures at the Grange in late August/September. The finals will be held in Dublin.

A must for any local cricket fans. Ticket details to be announced soon apparently

Hadn't heard anything about this- sounds great and a few big names across the teams- hoping to get along to a few games

They haven't ssid what the actual reasons are.

Tough on the players. Some of the Scottish players were in Canada recently at their T20 competition presumably partly to prepare.

That would have taken a lot to get all the players on board. There were some top players due to play, some of the best in the world. Letting a lot of people down. They even confirmed Ross Taylor of New Zealand was replacing the retired Brendan McCullum yesterday.

Seems down to money. Lack of advertising perhaps. Not sure if there was to be TV coverage. From article below cash flow problems meant that they might struggle to pay for the temporary stands and installing TV/radio facilities.

The Canada T20 just finished had problems and was the same organisers. More here.

One of the comments of 'we need to sort things out with our principal backers', would hint at money I'd say. I cant honestly believe its a lack of advertising/media interest during a World Cup/Ashes year.
