It was the internet without the arguments.

I fondly remember summer days in the nineties, as a teenager, waking up and checking Ceefax for Hearts news before doing anything else.

One summers day in 96, the Ceefax headline "Hearts make triple swoop" sent me into delirium.

Neil McCann, David Weir and Jeremy Goss.

Unbelievable scenes.

Never mind ceefax.

Guys of my age remember looking in tv shop windows for the teleprinter to churn out the scores. Then there was also the half time scoreboard at the game.

Ground breaking stuff!

310 for the Scottish scores. Glorious days. You could watch the Tv and set it so that a notification would pop up in the top right hand corner when a goal was scored which would leave you on the edge of your seat until you pressed the page again to find out who had scored!

I remember after we beat Rangers away 3-0 I kept the score on hold for about an hour after full time to revel in the moment. Just me and my Ceefax in perfect harmony. A great and simpler time.

It’s when the page went to 1/2 you knew there’d been more goals. The suspense if your teams game was on page 2 was unbearable...😁

Snooker caused great drama for my folks. Could not bear to press the button to see if Steve Davis had lost a frame

Also ****ed the use of the update function which was only of use for suspense on a single page.

Still miss Channel 4 racing section which was great. Scrolling through 17 pages of a racecard. Mispent youth

I mind booking a holiday using it and having to wait about 30 minutes for the page to reappear for details of it. Bamboozle was also fun.  Loved checking the scores on it and waiting for the league table to be updated.

Simpler times :)

Used to annoy the mrs when the adverts came on and I would switch on ceefax to see if there was any hearts news.

That teleprinter on Grandstand was agony at times. Must have been about 50 bauds chuntering  away ......... Aberdeen 1 Hearts ...... the anticipation

Ceefax was cut throat when they introduced the flash score. You could have the TV on mix and the latest goals and scorer flashing up on the bottom of the screen

Most vivid memory of Ceefax was using it to keep up with a game around October '95.

We'd started to struggle a bit in the early days of JJ and all afternoon the unchanging Falkirk 0-0 Hearts seemed a not too shabby outcome under the circs.

Total 5h1te. We'd conceded a goal in each half and lost 2-0 but it only changed to that with the FT confirmation.

Gits.

Jambo, Goodbye

Imagine viewing this year's transfer thread through Ceefax. One post per page.

Would be the stuff of nightmares

The 'Sevco' thread would take years to cycle through!

I’m 30 and vividly remember sitting at my grandparents house waiting for the holiday on page 30 to come back round.

Also remember getting the scores from that afternoons game.

Then sky tv came along with beehive bedlam and really changed the game.

ITV's was Oracle, but the company was Teletext UK, iirc.

There was a History of Teletext on the Web done by some bloke with no wife, friends or job. It was a great read.

My favourite ceefax game - the 4-4 derby

My least favourite game - 2-3 against Celtic when we were 2 up with 10 minutes to go or something like that

Also football scores on the radio when you knew by the tone of the guys, (and it was always a guy then) voice if your team got horsed.

”Heart of Midlothian Four, (Lowers voice) Hibernian 1.

I listened to the away Bayern Munich game on the radio in the dark. It was hellish

I "watched" the Stuttgart game on Ceefax.

No internet in the house back then. Living in Bristol... so was tuned in to FiveLive but there was so much football on that the Hearts game never got a mention.

Try explaining that to the kids today.
